Don't forget to feed the meter when you actually find a spot. Just watch out for those parrots in the trees. I don't see the owners but I'm sure they are nearby to charge you for taking a picture with their birds. Everyone and their mothers are taking pictures here. Just be courteous and take turns. Better yet, help each other take pictures for each other. It's one of those statues you have to see as a destination across America on a road trip. On the East coast, there is a huge Marilyn Monroe statue which for some reason, I thought was here near this statue. Just like right out of the Times magazine is this beautiful image. I've seen the photos where most couples try to re-enact the same kissing scene for their photo next to it. Be extra careful walking back to your car, there are still drivers that don't look around as they are backing out of their spaces or pulling into one.

Walking there at day or night is awesome. Shops are little bit expensive but you will surely find a souvenir for your special one. You can make good pictures there and have a lot of fun.

Came here during the morning and got to witness a military ceremony in front of the statute - seemed completely fitting for this iconic landmark.

The infamous THE KISS statue based on the picture at Times Square in New York!

It is a must for couples to take a picture underneath the statue! The views are beautiful too! You get to have the USS Midway in the background!

The area around this giant statue affords great photography opportunities as in addition to the statue you have great views of the Midway, Coronado Island, the bay and more. There's also a fun statue commemorating Bob Hope. Parking is a nightmare so it might be easier to park elsewhere and walk.

One of the most iconic pictures in military history in this enormous statue. It's right next to the Midway museum. We saw the fireworks here a couple of years ago, very memorable! Fun fun fun!

Can't miss this sculpture, it is huge! A fun place to take some photos with this replica of an iconic WWII photo. Some people think it is great and others don't but why not go ahead and take a look and see for yourself.

"Unconditional Surrender" is a world famous sculpture based on the famous photo taken on VJ Day. Also known as "the kiss," the 30ft tall sculpture makes a great photo-op, and even at night when it is majestically up-lit. While the sculpture is not very well liked by critics, it is symbolic and loved by San Diegans.

It is located in a small park on the waterfront and surrounded by WWII monuments -- and the USS Midway aircraft carrier. The park is really interesting and makes for a great afternoon distraction for anyone in the downtown area. The entire thing is free, and open to the public, and you can walk right up to the the statue.

Fun fact: the original statue was made of foam. It was replaced in 2012 with bronze.

Unconditional Surrender is a 15,000 pound statue that is a replica of the famous photo of the sailor kissing a nurse on Victory Over Japan Day. It's located on the pier right by the USS Midway Museum, so swing by and take a photograph of it on your way to the big ship.

A sailor returning from the sea, the end of war, a kiss... Definitely an "Unconditional Surrender"! It attracts to Embarcadero couples from everywhere for a photo and a big kiss! The most visited sculpture in San Diego couldn't fit better a city where the Navy and Marine are everywhere.
