Westfield Horton Plaza is located just one block south of the Civic Center stop on the trolley, and is also easily accessible by car with parking validation available in the mall.

I am putting this in our guide as a place to NOT go to. There is nothing special about it and it is very dated.

Located at the center of Downtown, the Horton plaza offers many shops and places to eat.

Nice downtown shopping mall to have a bite to eat and shop. I thin it gets quite busy on the weekends.

Over the years, the once wonderful Horton Plaza mall has gone WAY down hill. I was there the day it opened. Now, it's in a shameful state. Most of the food court eateries have either been shuttered, or now feature cheap substitutes. Rather than the once great taco shop, now there is a Taco Bell. The once fantastic sweet roll place has been replaced with a sub-par substitute. I asked one of the workers about the change, and he said, "Yes, I hear all the time that the Mall is not what it used to be." It is good that there is a decent used bookstore at the mall, but that's another sign of the times. In the old days, the used bookstores downtown were there because the downtown was cheap due to how nasty it was. A used bookstore can survive at Horton Plaza, because the Mall is degrading. I am not sure what is causing this, given how dense the downtown area is with residents and office workers. But it is happening, and it is getting worse. And the revamp of the park area seems to have stalled. Planet Hollywood long gone, many of the key stores are long gone. The last original tenant, the lovely toy store, long gone. Is this due to Westfield management or something else?

Been going there since the day they open. Slowly over the years gone downhill a bit. Need to revamp it soon or they won't be very many people going there anymore.

If you enjoy shopping, stop by this unique outdoor mall that is in the heart of the Gaslamp District.

I was in San Diego for a wedding and needed a new dress shirt after ruining the one I brought with me. Thankfully the Westfield Horton Plaza had all the major department stores and I was able to find a suitable replacement. An outdoor mall, you can enjoy San Diego's mild weather as your browse all the major retailers you would associate with a mall.

I have to say it was rather helpful at times having a mall downtown while I was staying there despite it being a bit on the pricey side.

I would make this one of my first stops after picking up the rental near the airport. Unfortunately I don't come around as often since they changed their parking policy. You could validate your ticket for up to 90 minutes in their machines, but now you have to make a purchase of at least $10, then show the receipt to concierge before getting your validation. Too much work! However, this is a nice multi-level shopping center smack dab in the Gaslamp if you plan to do some retail damage.

Remember where you parked, this parking lot it tricky! Some nice stores: Aldo, Macys, Nordstrom, Sanrio but otherwise I have no real need to come here. Great for bringing tourist or friends who've never been!

Cool features: interesting design, nice tile work throughout & a life-size chess board!

If you need to do some mall shopping while downtown give this a shot but it is such a strange design that even long-time locals still get lost on it's many half-levels.

Place to hang around if you're not doing anything. Unconventional building for a mall. Open walkways and plenty seating & benches. Pick a spot and read a book.

Great mall, but sort of confusing to get around. Remember where you parked!!!!

There is a movie theater there too.

Shopping is fine BUT parking is expensive if you plan to stay longer than 3 hours! By the time you have lunch and shop at 2 stores, you are out of time unless you want to pay $3.00 for every 15 minutes!!

This mall is sort of like a maze sometimes. There are about 5 floors, well sort of. There's a comedy place on the top floor now so that is pretty cool. They offer 3 free hours of parking in the horton plaza parking lot with validation so if you want, you can venture out to the downtown area for a bit before hopping into the car to go home.

This mall is confusing to navigate around and parking is expensive. Not as much selection compared to Fashion Valley Mall.

It's a cute, maze-like Alice in Wonderland kind of mall but the problem is that it's also like a maze.

Discovery: Not as great as Fashion Valley in terms of stores but the parking is horrendous. You would think a mall with it's own parking structure would be convenient, but the parking structure is like a maze sometimes itself. Right. left, left, left, right, going in circles, left.

At least you can validate for free for a few hours.

So not worth getting into near accidents navigating the parking structure but at least it was near the San Diego Chinese New Year Food and Cultural Fair along with many other cool places (I don't try finding street parking in Downtown). I just parked in the structure and walked a few blocks (actually a lot of blocks because I got lost like always). It's also near a Wendys which is where I like to have lunch because I love the chili and frostie.

Location C (Wendys) and D (Horton) in my Leather Search.

Great spread of outdoor shops, restaurants, and retail. It's not particularly unique from other malls, but I have found I really like the variety here - and it's perfectly located in a central spot within walking distance to hotels and other attractions, in case you need something last minute.
