One of my favorite places to eat in the Mission. Very San Francisco with an amazing atmosphere. I highly recommend the Sunday Brunch. Try to make a reservation.

What is all the hype about this place??
Joking!

OMG! It's like a tastebud explosion of yumminess!

It's one of those places where you can't possibly go wrong with anything you order!

I got a taste of:

Fig with Yogurt- mmm mmmm man the figs were delightful

Champagne omelet- It looks like it could be bland, but each bite was bursting with flavor

Balsamic Fried Eggs- what a treat. This one is never off the menu for reasons known to those who have experienced this dish.

Croque Madame- woaahhhh this one was insanely bursting with cheesy gooey creaminess

Bottom Line: great place to gather a group of friends or cute date spot

Next time I will have to come for the movies or a future date :P

Love coming to this place. Perfect spot to grab a drink and some bites at the quaint low-key bar or kick back with some friends on the patio under the heat lamps. The food is always excellent as is the service. You'll need to make reservations and I highly recommend the fresh oysters, they're to die for!

Make a reservation days or weeks in advance. The ambience is quite unique, as a foreign film continues to play on the big screen. We had a very weird movie and it played and replayed 3 times while we had dinner. The food was delicious, but very pricey for what you are getting.

My wife read me the description on this restaurant and I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, it was not the best steak I've ever had. It wasn't close. It was either too bitter or too sweet.

We came here for brunch on a special sample menu that features their most popular brunch dish through the SF foodies group.

We had
1.) caramel pecan sticky bun
2.) peach organic pop tarts
3.) summer fruit dish
4.)white tuna tartare
5.)santan Barbara smoked salmon
6.) Baguette French toast
7.) poached egg with sliced duck breast
8.) Persian flat omelette
9.) croque Madame
10.) September shopped salad

It also came with two complimentary desserts chèvre cheesecake and the Valentina chocolate pot de crime.

You can find all of them in their brunch menu and they are all good, my fav( and their signature) is their Persian omelette featuring a very thin layer of green omelette( the herb were responsible for the green color) with several Indian papadum sitting on top for decoration. It is definitely an art but I don't feel sorry eating it because it was so good!

I want to come back and try dinner at some point because I heard they project old movies onto the wall in the courtyard at night.

Oh yes for best seat make sure to ask for a center table at the courtyard.

Service is excellent!

This is a unique place to enjoy some french cuisine while watching foreign silent films on a large projected screen. There are two showings nightly, and the food stands well on its own.

Boo. Not only is this one of those "evil" forces of gentrification you keep reading about, it's doing a poor job of it. The food here is way, way, way overhyped and equally overpriced. Skip it and go to lolo instead. Or any of the hundred other good restaurants in the mission.

Love this place! We were lucky enough to get a table on the outside patio. It's nicely decorated with light bulbs above you. On the back wall, they play a foreign film, hence their name. The food and service was excellent as well. Great ambience, making it a perfect date night place. I highly recommend the sesame fried chicken (prob the best fried chicken I've ever had).

Exceptional service! The waiter was attentive and on point. We ordered the steak, fried chicken, duck, ceviche, salad and pasta. All were tasty, but my favorite was the fried chicken. The skin was well seasoned and just the right level of crispness. We didn't pay much attention to the cinema, but it could have been a good source of entertainment. For dessert we ordered an Italian style cheesecake and chocolate pudding which was accompanied by s soft cookie. The cookie reminded me of my childhood so the waiter kindly sneaked in 3 extra cookies for me.

Great ambiance, good (not great) food, and so-so service. The ambiance alone warrants a visit; it's really that special.

If you're looking for something fun and different dinner-wise in SF, Foreign Cinema is great. They have a nice cozy protected outdoor area where they show foreign films. The food and the wine list here are superb.

This place is really cool! It's like eating at an old french cinema!
The food is always changes and is really good, and the old movies that are constantly projected their above the tables makes that experience even better!:)

One of the best brunch spots in the city. I love the homemade Pop Tarts. Also a romantic dinner spot.

the ambiance of the restaurant is lovely. the patio is really charming with the art films they project outside, and the rosy lights they string above all the tables create a warm, intimate mood. there's a fair amount of seating in the restaurant but they've managed to block the tables a good distance apart. the movie they were playing when I ate here on Tuesday was The Maltese Falcon, and I ordered the salad with huckleberry vinaigrette and seeds + the alaskan halibut w/ baby artichokes, white beans, picholine tapenade and aioli. it was a nice meal but I was not blown away; I liked the salad, but the aioli carried the halibut dish which was otherwise not as flavorful as I was hoping. our server was incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is very elegant, but I had much higher expectations for this SF institution where food was concerned.
