This was a huge pot placed on top of one of those table burners. It was like everything went into the pot and all we had to do is wait for it to boil. There were all the little appetizer dishes delivered to the table. This kept us occupied for a while before we noticed it was piping hot with the crabs. We each got a serving in the big metal bowls where you are not going to be holding this bowl to eat. These string like noodles were actually some sort of vegetable but it was all so good and spicy. Once we were almost at the bottom of this pot, the guy came back and started prepping for the kimchi fried rice. This was really good even though the soup got us full. I think it was $78 for the three of us for dinner this night.

Genghis Khan is the San Gabriel Valley spinoff of Ondal 2 and spicy crab soup is their specialty. The banchan spread here is exactly the same as what's served in Koreatown. The banchan stand out because they are freshly prepared everyday. They are more appetizing than the ones served elsewhere in the SGV area, consisting of octopus, sweet seaweed, and a kimchi pancake, not just the generic glazed potatoes and kimchi from a jar.

After ordering the crab pot at Ondal 2 during my last visit, I decided to try something new here, the seafood pot. It arrived loaded with scallops, fish intestine, shrimp, mussel, clams, and sea snail boiled in a mildly sweet seafood broth over a pile of bean sprouts. The hot pot served family style, with the quantity proportioned for 2, 3 or 4 people. All of the preparation such as cutting of seafood into pieces and removing meat from the shell was done tableside. Service here was a notch more friendly compared to the Koreatown location.

Overall, GK is a great addition to the San Gabriel Valley because it adds diversity for Korean food options outside of BBQ and tofu soups. The menu is simple and focused on just a few main course - seafood pot, crab pot, or beef rib pot (galbijjim). I like restaurants that specialize in a short list of items, this to me ensures all their ingredients are fresh!
