The Parroquia San Miguel Arcángel is San Miguel de Allende’s main church, it was built in the 1800’s in a Gothic Style. You can either visit it or just enjoy it from outside while you walk the downtowns main park.

Parroquia is the place you must see, it's located in downtown, 15 minutes driving from my place, just 2 kms from the house. The Parroquia is the symbol of the City around the world for its unique neogothic style built in 1888 as a restoration of the previous one. In front of the Church is the Jardin, main plaza, where everyone from all over the world must join with the natives to join this paceful city.

The first construction was of baroque style with two towers, due to an affectation in the structure of the temple for 1880 it was entrusted to the master bricklayer Don Zeferino Gutiérrez Muñoz, that had fame by its outstanding works, that carried out the remodeling and relying on a postcard of the Cathedral of Cologne, Germany,

Focal point of the Jardin (har-deen), which is the centre of San Miguel de Allende.
Whimsical architecture in pink stone with large antique bells that toll the hours.

The Parroquia is the heart and soul of San Miguel and our apartment is only a few minutes easy walk to it and the Jardin. We also have a wonderful view from our upper terrace that can not be beat of this marvelous church. It is the most photographed church in all of Mexico. It is the only Gothic Church in Mexico and is a site to be seen. It is quite the thing to have a wedding here and there are many each weekend. Join a Tequila Wedding March around town on a Friday evening before the wedding.

La Parroquia, the historic European style church in the Jardin, the central square of San Miguel, is the iconic symbol of San Miguel. Any time, day or night, it becomes a gathering place for cultural events, history buffs, photographers and painters...... both visitors and locals. One of the sidewalk cafes is a great place for lunch while watching life happen in San Miguel.

Clearly, you can't go home without walking to the Jardine and sitting a spell. You must walk into the Parroquia (Ladies, while not absolutely necessary, a scarf on you head is an appreciated form of respect while inside).

At night you can sample the many mariachi bands and vendors and there is almost always something happening around the Jardine.

If you want to know who is in town, head to the Jardin across from the Parroquia. This is the center of town and the center for meeting people. Hire a Mariachi band, get a shoe shine or buy a newspaper.

This is the most photographed church in the world, and it dominates the city of San Miguel de Allende, it can be seen from our house and is located only 4 blocks away. This church is a must and if you are lucky, you will see a wedding with everyone dressed beautifully and the burro leading decorated with flowers all over and the mariachis following the wedding party to one of the beautiful hotels for a reception.

The pink stone of the Parroquia is unique. Lit at night, it twinkles like a castle, and you can enjoy the view from our three terraces!
Take a guided walking tour of San Miguel, including the Church every Monday,. Wednesday or Friday, starting in the Jardin at 9 AM in English.
