Description
The story behind the San Pedro Fish Market and Restaurant begins nearly 60 years ago in the Los Angeles port town of San Pedro, CA. Mackey Ungaro opened a small retail fish market named Vista Seafood ... Read more
and put his son, Henry and nephew, Tommy Amalfitano in charge of running it; they were only teenagers at the time. This store was a popular with the locals and business was good. In the early 70's Mackey purchased Norm's Landing Fish Market on San Pedro’s Waterfront section of the Los Angeles Harbor. Norm's eventually replaced Vista and a live seafood section was developed where customers could pick their own Lobster and Crab and have it steamed fresh. Additionally, they developed their own smoked-fish recipe and garnered quite a following for Smoked Halibut, Salmon, Tuna, Cod, Swordfish, and many others. These were the first moves towards selling a cooked ready to eat product and would eventually lead to our World Famous Shrimp Tray.

Seafood lover's paradise! Bring your appetite to this place with so many options you make want to taste a bit of everything. Live mariachis strolling to serenade you while you dine. Great drinks like the Mangonada with chamoy and michelada salt and plenty of non alcoholic beverages for the kids. It's a festive atmosphere by the sea.

This place allow you to pick your own seafood to cook, then they cook for you with canjun seasoning, veggies and potatoes and lastly, squeeze lemon on top and serve! Come early on weekday to avoid the lines.

This place gets BUSY and there are long lines to order. However, it does move quite efficiently. Like the name says, it's both fish market (to get your fresh fish) and restaurant (to get your cooked items) and the long lines are around the restaurant.

It's an order/pay at the counter style and then you take your food to the many picnic tables to eat.

There's also separate alcohol stands and ceviche stands too.

Our group of 4 handled 2 combo plates, which they pile on a tray with a couple of lemons and cups of salsa. It came with fried tilapia, shrimp, and some salmon. And then they dump a whole bunch of green peppers, onions, tomato, and potato mixture on top.

It definitely looks impressive. But I didn't like how a couple bites in, everything just tasted the SAME. I got bored of the taste rather quickly unfortunately.

They also have more luxurious combos that includes a lobster tail, but from the looks of it (from a neighboring table) it's not worth it either as the tail is quite small and you're paying a premium.

Ambiance is great, lively outdoorsy place but food here left me wanting more...

Food ordered:
Shrimp Trays (1/5)
Way too many potatoes vs shrimps, not worth the $30 price tag for 2 people & the long lines either.

Shrimp ceviche: (2/5)
They didnt even give us the ceviche sauce until I asked for it, wth?! They skimped on the shrimps too. =(

Combo: Calamari & Fish & chips: (3/5)
A little too over fried & not enough fish ratio here =(

Had to go find better food else where after this..left me hungry trying to eat here. =(

We came here for lunch to try their shrimp tray. Wellllll, I felt like the shrimp was just okay. It was kind of overpriced, a combo tray for over 50 bucks and it wasn't even fresh. The shrimp was whatever. I would say the small pieces of potato and tomato was better than the seafood. The fish was very dry, I couldn't eat anymore after one bite. But their margarita blended drinks were pretty strong!

Dang this place gets crowded! I would not make a trip out here on purpose to get their food. Although they give a lot of seafood--we ordered the tray combo--but it was not that good. It seems like the seafood was left out there for awhile. The flavoring wasn't that great either. And it costed us $50 for the tray. Not worth the trouble coming here.
