For over 15 years of visiting Santa Fe & dining at La Fonda we continue to visit Yearly!! At Christmas the town is transformed with hundreds of luminaries that set a romantic glow. The restaurant provides either a delicious buffet, or you may order from the menu. A great stop while shopping &/or exploring the Santa Fe Square. The rooms are exquisite and check with the hotel for availability. It tends to get filled quickly. No room stay is required for stopping by the restaurant located in the La Fonda Lobby. Our family always look forward to our families yearly trip to La Fonda!!!

Guarding the Plaza, La Fonda remains authentic and beautiful. Rooftop bar is fun as is the C&W most nights in the lobby. Explore!

If you're going to go old-school in Santa Fe, just go straight to La Fonda. Even the sound of the place is timeless--people shuffling on the tile floors, conversations muffled by the thick adobe walls. Honestly, the rooms can seem quite small for the price, but you're really paying for history here, and a sense of what life in Santa Fe was like before it got celebri-fied. [Edited 10/13: rooms have all been redone--not quite as character-filled now, but attractively modernized and much more luxurious, still with original Mary Colter touches in place.]

I didn't stay here, but I had one of the best margaritas on the Sun Terrace. It overlooks the Plaza. It might be a good place to stay the next times. The reviews are high.

This is the great old hotel at "The End of the Trail" in downtown Santa Fe. Remodeled beautifully, this fine hostelry has a huge parking lot and is 1/2 block from the Plaza and 1/2 block from the Cathedral. The lobby has a great newstand and a casual bar that occupys a corner of the open space. There is also a fine restaurant with sort of a Spanish Garden, inside, out. The lobby happy hour features free snacks, live music and discounted drinks. Some fabolous jewelry stores inhabit the street side lobby as well as an excellent French Pastry Shop that serves espresso, breads, croissants, danish, desserts, etc. This is a local meeting place for breakfast and lunch. Day trips in Santa Fe are spectacular...The Puye' Cliffs, Museum Row, The Rio Grande gorge, Canyon Road Art Galleries (Fridays are 'openings'; free cheap wine and ooooo-lala); Pecos Monument, Tent Rocks, Taos high road, Taos low road, and many more. Summers, they have had a large, open 2nd story terrace for breakfast, lunch and drinks. (Remember, Santa Fe is above 7000' in altitude) Everyone is affected for the first few days. Plan to take it easy, in town, for a few days. Also watch your alcohol consumption; getting smashed is easier at high altitude. BUT, don't miss the Margaritas and fresh Mojitos in The Summer. Shots of Patron Tequila are smooth and to be sipped. The exotic and 'pet-name' Margaritas, i.e. Silver Coin or Grand Gold are exotic but often sour to my taste. The "House" Margarita, almost anywhere will be just what you want. (and with way less expense)

Its the La Fonda-- one of the most charming historic buildings in the city. I like going during the day. Very popular, food was above average but not knock your socks off. You are playing for the atmosphere so lunch is a good option if you want to save some money but still enjoy the experience

I stayed here once with family on a business trip. It's an historic hotel (literally at the end of the Santa Fe trail) and is right on the Plaza. The hotel itself is nicely appointed in faux adobe and other Southwest touches. The hotel rooms themselves are nice and stay with that theme, but are not amazing.

However, my fondest memory of La Fonda was when I lived in New Mexico in 1979. I would go to Shabbat services at the old Beth Shalom building and then for our Oneg, Rabbi Leonard (first name) would take us all over to La Fonda. His Catholic friend was in the band and did a killer latin dance version of "Hava Tequila".
