Annenberg is a great spot to visit & have lunch at the nearby Back on the Beach cafe or to take a tour of the home that William Randolph Hearst built in 1920 for actress, Marion Davies. The Beach House is open to the public & has an amazing swimming pool where you can hang out all day for a nominal fee. Definitely worth a visit whether on a vaca or if you live locally.

If you don't feel like sneaking into a hotel pool or being hit on by out-of-towners while you tan, pay just $10/day on weekends for a swim. The 5-acre oceanfront site upon which the Annenberg Community Beach House now sits was originally developed by William Randolph Hearst as an opulent private estate for actress Marion Davies. Naturally, we feel quite at home here.

What a great little public resource!! Worth a visit and some beach time. Bring your blanket and ice chest and beach toys and enjoy the beach in Santa Monica with reasonable parking options and access to the many services here and right next door at the Back at the Beach Cafe. Close in to Santa Monica along the curve on Pacific Coast HIghway.

Fantastic place to bring the kids. This public beach house and pool is located just down the street and on the beach. You need to make reservations. There is parking and a food stand. A great way to spend the day with your children!

Recently renovated this is community pool captures the hollywood history of LA with its allure of its beach geography. Seriously - a public pool on the Santa Monica beach. Does it get any better.

This is a great place for to bring a family and spend time during the day. Keep in the mind that the weekend passes go on sale a couple of days early and that they sell out pretty quickly. There are some left for each day but they go on a first come first serve basis so plan accordingly.

A great place for special events and for beach goers with small children. For a real beach experience I prefer Zuma.

A few months ago I escaped the rain and dreary Bay Area weather and enjoyed a sunny weekend getaway in Santa Monica. Since my cousin lives in LA I had a built in tour guide and driver during my stay, and we had a great time just hanging out together. Although I was the visitor, I was able to take my cousin to a place she had never even heard of let alone visited. As we were driving down the PCH I caught sight of the sign for the Annenberg Community Beach House, so we decided to take a scenic detour and luckily there was plenty of room in their parking lot.

The Annenberg Community Beach House was once the home of actress Marion Davies, perhaps best known for her long love affair with newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Most of the original house was demolished long ago, and today the only original building that remains is the Marion Davies Guest House which has been beautifully restored. In the place of Ms. Davies' old home now stands the Annenberg Community Beach House which is a wonderful event space. There was a wedding reception underway when we visited, and I cannot imagine a more perfect setting for someones special day. The original swimming pool is still intact and for just $10 the public is able to spend the day enjoying the beach, swimming in the pool, or just tanning and relaxing poolside. There is also an adjacent cafe with gorgeous views of the beach and a casual and relaxed atmosphere that lends itself well to the overall vibe of the place, stop by for a refreshing drink or a light lunch as you laze the day away.

The highlight of our visit was a tour of Marion Davies Guest House, the outside facade is impressive without being imposing and we were warmly greeted by a volunteer guide at the entrance. Our guide led us on a tour of the house sharing stories of the many parties Marion Davies and William Randolph Hearst hosted, stories that were made more vivid by the large size photos of party goers prominently displayed. Where Hearst Castle is darkly ornate and dare I say it garishly over the top in its display of opulence, Marion Davies' Guest House is light, bright, and airily beautiful in it's simplicity. Original tile in the bathrooms and beautiful moldings give visitors a peek into the home's glamorous past, oh if only these walls could talk what stories they would tell! The most amazing part of our visit to Marion Davies Guest House was learning that this wonderful space is open to the public and absolutely free. You can stop in and sit with a book on the veranda looking out over the beach (and if you are at all like me you will find yourself pretending that this is your very own beach house)! I've heard that there is a group of ladies that visit every week for an afternoon of cards and gossip, it sounds like a great way to spend a day. This was my first time visiting the Annenberg Community Beach House, but it will most definitely not be my last. I can't wait to return in the summer so that I can spend the day enjoying the beach and the sunshine while frolicking in Ms. Davies' swimming pool.
