Every third Saturday is beach clean-up with Heal the Bay. It was on the cooler side while the sun was out. The rain held off until the afternoon. We unloaded everything and set up the canopy tents. About a hundred kids assemble in the distance before they all started running towards the supply tent. @ABC7 was doing a special on the kids from a nearby school in Santa Monica/West LA area about Students volunteering. There were about 700 people that showed up to help gather about 150 pounds of trash. Definitely a fun day because after we finished, I went up to the Santa Monica Pier to have lunch. Everyone should come out to help, great day to start a Saturday with @HealtheBay.

Love being at the beach with kids! Park close to Perry's on the Beach for good food and rentals of bikes, surf boards boogie boards and more. Always a great time on a sunny California day!

I'm a local and one if my favorite past times is biking or roller blading on the bike path alongside Santa Monica state beach. Nothing beats this type of exercise. The views are simply amazing and people are always so friendly.

Beautiful long stretch of beach with a pier and businesses along the side. Great place for a walk. Not as naturally beautiful as, say, Hawaii, but it has a unique charm of its own.

Big, sprawling beaches perfect for picnicking, suntanning, and just soaking up sunshine. There are a lot of homeless people around, but they beaches are well-equipped with facilities (bathrooms, rinse-off showers, trash cans, etc.) and with so many tourists it doesn't feel unsafe during the day.

Beautiful setting with the pier and arcade with vendors nearby! Heed the posted warnings and wade in the water if you are brave. .. There are surfers out there!

No place better than spending the day at the beach.
It was sunny, a bit windy (and it got cold as it got dark) but still a perfect day!!

I was here for a kid's birthday party. I was in charge of bringing a canopy tent and a couple of big tables (the joy of driving a pick up, lmao).

Parking can be a challenge here, but I got lucky and snagged a spot steps from the sand. Unloading my gear was not an issue.

There was a lot of people here. We sent a few of our friends to come early and save us a nice spot. We got five canopy tents in a group. Sweet!

The kids had fun playing in the sand and with the waves.
We had food, drinks, music and a heck of a good time.

Info:
Bathrooms are on the Pier. Go up the stairs and go straight. There are plenty of restrooms there.

Plan accordingly for a party or a spontaneous trip to the beach, either way, it will be a fun day =)

Note to Yelp: stop deleting my review drafts (4th one). And Yelp Support, is no help!

Awesome place to watch the sunset. Stayed at the JW Marriott, which is within walking distance to the beach. Quiet and clean sands with perfect views of the ocean. Would post a hundred photos if I could.

These are the sands next to the iconic Santa Monica pier. Lay out and people watch.

A nice beach to go take in a sunset. There are other beaches that offer more beautiful scenery but this beach is the easiest to get too.

Nice place to have fun, but still pretty overcrowded and a little bit too dirty.

I love the beach. But this one is pretty dirty and crowded. When it's colder there are less people and not surprisingly not as dirty.

My hometown beach, so I really want to like it. The best time to go is before 9:00/10:00, when the masses emigrate to beach and you have to start dodging inattentive pedestrians and transients. "Early" in the morning, you'll pretty much have the beach to yourself. Surfers tend to be lazy, so don't expect many out before 8:00. Volleyball players start showing up around 7:00/8:00. Best time to run is before 7:00, which is when the running clubs take over the path. The downside is that there will be trash all over the beach, so be careful where you walk. The restrooms open at 6:00, in case you need to use them. South of the pier offers a lot both on the beach and on Main Street (south of Ocean Park Blvd.).

This is a great beach, but quite expansive. If you can get close parking, it may not be too bad, but our parking was probably a good mile from the Santa Monica pier. Definitely one of the largest beaches we have been on, and there are definitely lots of people here.

I really like Santa Monica beach, it is accessible and quite diverse, the creamy fine sand is well kept and the lifeguards always on alert (not to mention sexy & good-looking)

It is impossible not to find a spot when you go to this beach, unless you are very very picky I suggest to head up further north---waaay up north to find your peace, quiet and solitude. The week days are a much calmer time to come here but it is never an empty beach. I often come here with my beach chair, umbrella and a book, stake my little claim for the day with my multi-colored beach umbrella, setup the chair and read (which to be honest - I fall asleep more often than not..hahaha) You could bring your own bevies and packed lunch or snacks but please let us keep the beach clean and in-order, whatever you food or stuff you bring in, please make sure to bring it out---take your trash out, there are plenty of trash bins scattered in the premise.

I love coming here after work and watch the sunset, take a bit of my time to simmer down and reflect about my day. The calming waves, the cry of the seagull's--it almost mutes the outside noise.

On the weekends, the beach becomes a bustling water metropolis, weird enough, I like surfing here amidst all the action, I consider Santa Monica Beach as my surfing Alma Mater, no matter what other surfers may say, I still find comfort surfing to my original wading pool.

We are lucky to be living in such a beautiful State, the California coast - Santa Monica Beach is actually natures blessing to city dwellers like us, let's keep it clean, nice and in-order so that we could enjoy it and let the younger future generations enjoy it as well.

Santa Monica is a beautiful beach! This was between santa monica and malibu - as you go towards malibu, the beaches become much cleaner. Loved biking on this path, you can rent a bike on one of the beaches for under $10! Enjoy the salty air, it heals.
