A one-of-a-kind experience to be one with African wildlife!
Everything at Safari West was great - the tent, tour, food and the staff!
They are famous for their safari tour. The tour takes about 1.5 hr - 2 hours. We took a safari jeep ride, some kids/adults had the options to sit at the upper side of the truck. Jeff also provided some blankets for us too as it was pretty cold that day. Jeff was very accommodative, knowledgable, he stopped at each animals and explained the history behind every animals.
We saw, hippos, antelope, cape buffalo, giraffe ( we didn't get to feed the giraffe though), cheetah (the cheetah was hiding so we didn't clearly see the cheetah). There was also a walking tour

I went to safari west hoping to have a marvelous time. Unfortunately my tour guide Lindsey, she has redhair decided that she would persue my boyfriend. She flirted with him the whole tour and afterwards offered him her number! I was in shock that safari west allows such behavior at a family oriented facility.

I will not be going back!

This animal park is outstanding. You'll embark on an open jeep car to explore the property where the animals have a spacious area to roam. If you're lucky, you'll get very up close and personal with the giraffes like I did! Sit up on the top of the jeep for the best lookout and opportunities! A giraffe came over and starting licking my seatbelt! Plus, there's a walkabout area too. This is fantastic for families. And if you really want to splurge, there's luxury accommodations on site!

Our family really enjoyed the tour. The property is beautiful, the guides are well informed, and there are almost 1000 animals to see.

What a fun place! A 400 acre safari preserve in the middle of wine country? Yes! See giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and a few other animals (no elephants, sadly), roaming about on a 2-hour tour via jeep. Much more spacious than a traditional zoo facility, and the animals have free reign of much of the open space, kind of like the San Diego Wild Animal Park.

This is a great place to go glamping - stay in tents with actual bathroom facilities - but you can opt just for the tour if sleeping in the great outdoors isn't really your thing.

Before we were married, my wife was going to Africa on safari, and she took me here as a consolation prize. Since then we've on safari in Africa, in fact we got married in Mombasa. We just spent the night there in the tent camp for our 7th anniversary, and had a great time! Great place for a little getaway, the place has grown a lot since we were last here 12 years ago. Bring the kids for a really fun time! The tent are the same ones you stay in on a real safari in Africa! They are imported form South Africa.

OK, so i haven't actually been here yet, but I really really really want to go. It's an african wildlife park on the "Sonoma Serengheti", complete with cheetahs, zeebras and warthogs, which you see via guided tour in a jeep. A seriously cool way to spend a morning before heading to the wineries. You have to make reservations for the tour ahead of time.

A fun way to spend some time with the kids. Despite the fact that you are thousands of miles from Africa, you can see zebras, giraffe, ibex and others from the back of an open safari truck while cruising through the large park. There's also a nice picnic area, and a pen with some smaller predators including a cheetah. Great for kids!

Tour takes about 3 hours (1hour walking and 2 hours on a jeep). It does not feel like you are in California. They made it pretty nice and the animals have a nice huge living space. I did expect to see more animals though. You can stay in on of their tent cabins which looked very nice. They did not have space for us, so book in advance.

Close your eyes and imagine the golden, sun-drenched hills of the wine country transformed into an African Savanna. That is the idea of Safari West. And they do a pretty go job of it as well. Book a tour in advance (they take 3 hours) and your guide will walk you around the enclosures to see monkeys, flamingos and cheetahs. Then you will board a Vietnam era military jeep with open sides to tour the bigger enclosures and get up close and personal with the animals. We had a few thrilling moments, including a giraffe that walled right up to the jeep and nuzzled the people on the roof. Overall, this was very cool, although most of the collection are antelopes of various types. 3 hours was a bit long for our kids (5 and 3) who lost interest after the 3rd variety of gazelle.

The guides were great though, and it was a fun diversion from the winery circuit. They sell sandwiches here that were pretty nasty - pack a picnic and you can hang out before the tour, eat and wander around.

Outstanding destination for families (and grown-ups, too). The tent cabins are very well done, great beds (with electric blankets), and unique furnishings. Bathrooms are very nice. Sleeping in a warm bed on a chilly night with a cacophony of animal calls is a hoot. Who knew flamingos were so talkative? Food is real good, staff is very friendly, and the wildlife jeep tour was amazing. Tons of African animals up close and personal. Great fun.

If going to an African Safari is not immediately possible and you live in the SF bay area, Safari West provides a very realistic alternative. There are numerous Safari tours offered depending on the timing of the year but the best part about Safari West is the offering of accommodation of safari tents.

These tents are absolutely sturdy and posh even with their own en-suite, fully functional bathrooms. Just imagine going to bed to the sound of crickets and perhaps footsteps of nearby animals, and waking up to fresh air and more animal sounds.

This place takes you far, far away and yet locates within 2 hours' drive to a metropolitan city. Both safari tours and accommodations are a great deal for such an unique experience.

A safari an hour and a half away from SF?? Wild, but true! It's hard to believe that this place even exists in the Bay Area. There are about 86 different species to see here, and some you can get super up close and personal with -- just don't touch!

At this incredible African wildlife preserve, we encountered giraffes, ostriches, rhinos, antelope, zebras, cheetahs, lemurs and more during our 2 hour private tour. We rode around in this rickety truck that had no parking break through unpaved trails and it was awesome! Our guide, Justin, was very informative and answered ALL of our questions, and made our experience that much more fun.

While driving through, we also passed by these cute tent cabins, which you can stay in. They liken them more with bed-and-breakfasts than a campground. They have hardwood floors, plush beds and full bathrooms. On full moons, there's a discounted rate for those of you who are into all those wild things that come out at night. They also have a nice picnic area with a BBQ pit, so you can dine on the grounds as well.

A safari next to Napa and the wine country? Who woulda thunk it? But, yes, it is possible to take a jeep safari past giraffe, water buffalo and emus 15 minutes from wine-tasting. I've been on safari in actual-Africa, so I was wary of what was coming. I couldn't have enjoyed my day more. We got to feed bananas to giraffe and, at the end, we got cornered by an angry emu, bravely fought off by our intrepid driver. We were there on a rainy day so lunch was canceled, but the safari bbq lunch is supposed to be quite good. (They have tented rooms, if you want to stay the night, but bring earplugs as animals don't follow quiet hours.)
