Santander Vacations

With just under 200,000 residents, this bustling resort town touts a small but impressive selection of historic sites, and a great beach spread. The most popular and frequently visited historic location is the Palacio de la Magdalena, which was used as a summer palace for Spanish kings during the early 20th century. Other than that, and a few ... Read more
hidden gems, the historic offerings are a bit slim, unless of course you make your way to one of this city's many museums. The various historical havens throughout the city tout exhibitions of art, ancient archeological treasures, and maritime history, adding plenty of educational and interesting appeal to this city to compliment the fun and sun. Like most coastal tourist focused locales in Spain, the beaches are lined with bars and clubs, making the shoreline here a great place to meet new people and socialize. There are plenty of water sports to be enjoyed with the help of tour and entertainment providers, and the nearby countryside is full of beauty to be explored. Had this city not had much of it's more historic buildings destroyed in a fire in 1941, vacationers might be more numerous, but still, as it exists today, Santander is a tempting place to enjoy a Holiday.

I had never considered going to Santander beforehand. It really is a hidden gem of Spain. The city has a lot to offer, especially in terms of the landscape and the beautiful beaches it hosts. The city is home to numerous cheap but lovely restaurants. I felt very safe walking around the city at night, even when staying in a slightly poorer area of the city. The people were all very friendly and really appreciate if you speak Spanish with them. You can also get the bus to Bilbao for around €7

Santander was the first town I visited in Spain, mainly because of a RyanAir flight from London that cost around $30. There are excellent beaches here and the people are very friendly, though they don't speak English. Near the port there is excellent seafood and the locals like to hang out in the courtyards drinking wine and talking.

A great city in the north of Spain that has wonderful and expansive beaches surrounding the city. Come here to enjoy a great climate, laid back people, and, of course, the beaches!
