Estación Mapocho, which now just acts as a national monument and not a working train station. The front of the building and all the rooms which are at the front of the building look over the Parque Forestal, popular with families, runners, and cyclists, every day. There are also two metro stations very close by, almost in front of the hotel — Estación Cal y Canto, and Bellas Artes. The hotel has a roof terrace that guests can use during the summer months and a breakfast room where the included breakfast is served — a full breakfast including eggs.

Local from Providencia

This hotel is a weird place to stay. If you are a backpacker, you will of course find a good price but you won’t be able to get to know other travelers as this is an apart hotel. Hotel AH is also located in a central area that is very noisy and although it’s close to many attractions and sights, it can get dangerous at night. However, it is a very convenient place to stay as each apartment includes a well-equiped kitchen. Close by it is also La Vega, Santiago’s most amazing food market. The staff was very friendly and helpful and it seems like they want to cater to their guests’ needs. I also appreciated the fact that the rooms are big and a lot of light comes in.

Local from Santiago, Chile

I liked the central location of this hostel. It’s just a few steps away from the historical centre of the city and really close to La Vega — a huge food market and one of my favourite parts of Santiago. Visiting La Vega will make you feel as close as you can to being Chilean. I also liked the fact that it was set within a reasonable budget. At the top of the building, there was a huge terrace which offered an incredible panoramic view of the city and of the River Mapocho, which is again something I like to find in hostels that I stay in. I also liked the fact that each room was more like it’s own little apartment, with kitchen and bathroom included. It wasn’t anything to shout about in terms of facilities or visual design, but it was well situated and well managed.

The apartments in Ah Hotel are really spacious. You can rent an apartment with two rooms for up to four adults, or a smaller one with just one bedroom for two adults. The apartment’s kitchen had everything and the bathroom was great — it wasn’t that much to look at, but the shower directed the water in a spray-like fashion directly from above. It might be worth pointing out that they don’t have apartments with bathtubs. The staff were really friendly and gave advice on how best to see the major sites of the city on foot, by wandering in a large circle from the hotel entrance and back again. But I was a bit disappointed with the breakfast for me, because I love to eat really well in the morning and breakfast didn’t include eggs — just cereals, bread, juice and the odd cake here and there.
