Local from Providencia

The only thing that I would say against this hostel is that guests have to go up the stairs to get to everything. The lobby is in the first floor, kitchen in the second, rooms and bathrooms in second and third floor and the terrace in the fourth. So it is not very handicap-friendly. Still is a very nice and clean place. It is located in front of the Santa Lucía Hill which is great for sightseeing. And come on, having a terrace with a great view is always a plus. The staff is friendly, helpful and sweet. All the people I met there were Chileans, which I think is great. Staying at a place where all the staff is foreign and they don’t know a thing about the country you are staying at is no good.

Local from Santiago, Chile

The roof terrace boasts a 360 degrees view of Santiago’s center and the Santa Lucia Hill (named Huelen in Mapuche, meaning "melancholy"), where the city was first founded - an important place to visit if you want to "live the life of a real Chilean". Seeing the burst of nature on this hill was amazing, as it laughed in the face of Santiago’s hard-nosed “progress”. The terrace was also perfect for drinks and barbecues (on the hostel’s grill) with friends, whilst taking in the view of these 200 year-old trees opposite - or a hot cuppa, something I really enjoy. The breakfast impressed me - no cheap bread or instant coffee here - and the breakfast room had a huge table to eat at, making it easy to share mealtimes and travel experiencing with others on the road. I really liked the small touches - the large bar made of wood, the 24-hour access and the recycling program run by the owner. The only problem is that the hostel spans across five floors and there’s no lift.

I loved the view from the roof terrace. It looks directly out over the famous Santa Lucia Hill. The BBQ grill on the terrace was a real plus too. When traveling on a budget it’s great to be able to bring food back to the hostel to cook. Amazingly, the owner recycles the trash. Guests separate their rubbish and he makes sure that it gets recycled, which is no small feat in Santiago. The breakfast they offer is really complete - toast, jam, ham, cheese, eggs, coffee, tea and cereals. I can’t eat wheat and sometimes in Latin America it’s hard to find a hostel which offers such variety at breakfast time. The female dorm was great. It had its own bathroom and the room heaters were really powerful - hugely important as I hate the cold and Santiago can be brutal during winter. Highly recommended!
