I’ve stayed in several hostels in Santiago over the years and this is probably my pick of the bunch. Great location in the lively neighbourhood of Bellavista, close to all the main bars and restaurants. The hostel itself has excellent facilities, with a communal kitchen and a top of the range pool table. Socially it’s great, with several communal areas and a lively clientele. Good choice for solo travellers who want to meet lots of people.

Local from Providencia

This hostel is HUGE. Hostel La Chimba is for people who want to stay at a cool-looking place, meet other travelers and maybe do some partying. It is located in the middle of the Bellavista neighborhood, Santiago’s most important party area. However the place is not perfect. As every hostel, it is not the cleanest or most organized place to stay. The staff was really friendly though, which is always a plus. The décor was mindblowing: the outside of the hostel is painted beautifully, so if you like street art, this is your place. The dorm where only girls could stay was nice. The lobby had a fun atmosphere and you can tell people can really chill here and get ready for a night of drinking or going out.

Local from Santiago, Chile

When I saw this hostel from the outside, I looked like a really cool place. It was covered in graffiti and really grabbed my attention. I also thought it fitted in perfectly with the surroundings of the Bellavista neighbourhood. However, I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay in this hostel. I visited twice because the first time there was nobody there to attend to my needs and show me around the hostel. When I went back a second time, nobody even spoke to me. I waited for about 15 minutes in the reception area and nobody asked me what I needed or whether I wanted a room. I decided to leave. It was a shame because the interior design of the hostel was also very unique.

First to Review

I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place for a number of reasons. First, I visited them twice to try to find out about rooms and both times I was unsuccessful. The first time, they said they couldn’t attend to me and the second time I waited around for 20 minutes and then just left as nobody seemed to want to help me out. There was a sign which read that breakfast was first come first served. I really wasn’t impressed with that. Breakfast should be available for everyone, whether they wake up a little later than others or not. The other worrying thing is that when I visited to find out about apartments, I wasn’t actually a registered guest and yet I was able to wander around (I got bored waiting!) without anyone questioning who I was or where I was going. There were serious issues in terms of security in this hostel, therefore, too.
