This hotel is good for many reasons. Hotel Nippon is great for people who are traveling on business trips and need to stay close to Santiago’s downtown area or its financial district. It is located just a couple of blocks away of Baquedano, Santiago’s neuralgic center. However, the place is also great for Japanese people who are looking to stay at a place where they feel comfortable and at home. The owners are Japanese and this culture is present everywhere. Another tip? Across the street is Santiago’s first ever Japanese restaurant, which was inaugurated in the 70’s so foodies can enjoy there a nice place to eat. The staff was really friendly and helpful also, which is always a plus. The décor was Japanese-inspired.

I’m still not sure if I liked this hotel or not.Everything was perfectly organised, very clean, and left neatly in its place, but there didn’t seem to be anyone else staying in the hotel. When I was there, I only saw members of staff — really nice staff, particularly the cleaning lady who was from the Dominican Republic — but I was a little bit worried about the fact that there weren’t any other guests. The restaurant was large and comfortable, but it didn’t have any special qualities which made it stand out. It reminded me in some ways of a food hall in a mall. I was impressed by the information I was given about Japan. The hotel owner is Japanese and as such there were lots of references to Japan throughout the hotel. There’s also a really great Japanese restaurant across the street which I would recommend to anyone who loves to eat their way through their travels.

The staff at this hotel explained to me that Nippon is a synonym for Japanese, which I didn’t know. The owner of the hotel is Japanese and in all the communal areas of the hotel there were references to Japan — through paintings, keepsakes and lettering on signs — which I found fascinating. I liked the clean, basic look to the hotel. The room was spacious and I liked the fact that the design was simple. The breakfast room was also light and airy. It seemed a perfect place for business travelers, but also for families. I didn’t really lack anything, and it’s definitely very centrally located — which I liked too because it means less travelling on public transport to get anywhere — but it didn’t have anything striking about it. It was the kind of hotel you would be comfortable in, but forget within an instant.
