Pio Nono 450 | Parque Metropolitano de Santiago, Santiago 8320000, Chile
Edit info
Description
Cerro San Cristobal, also known as Parque Metropolitano, dominates Santiago's skyline. The 700-hectacre hill forms the natural northern boundary for the city, and the Virgin Mary atop the hill - and ... Read more
the radio towers behind her - can be seen from all of western Santiago. The hill can be summitted in about an hour by foot, or in a few minutes by cab, but many people prefer to ride the funicular, which takes you from the Bella Vista neighborhood to altitude. The gondola that once connected the summit with Providencia is under repair. The park also contains a large public pool, a zoo, gardens, several restaurants, and many miles of hiking trails.

San Cristobal hill: With an altitude of 880 meters above sea level, it is the second highest point in the city.
It is the largest urban park in Latin America and very visited by Chileans and visitors to see its attractions or simply tote do sports ... From its top, you can see much of the city.
Unmissable: cool down with a typical "mote con huesillos"

This wonderful park, is a true green lung of the city, where you can visit the metropolitan zoo, take a walk on the funicular, walk and know different arboreal species of this area of the country and crown the peak of the hill with the view of the virgin San Cristobal. Besides being able to enjoy a ride on the renovated Santiago cable car.

Beautiful and peaceful place to stay a whole day, to take a bird's-eye view of the city. Also you can check the zoo in the middle of the mountain, the white tiger is amazing.

The best view of Santiago. If you have time, take a day to walk through the park. Another option is to rent a bike

On top of the San Cristobal Hill is where visitors are rewarded with a panoramic view of the city skyline of Santiago (at least the modern city skyline of Santiago)

This hilltop offers lovely views of Santiago and the nearby mountains. A great way to get perspective on the city. Best accessed by funicular but can also be reached by car or bike.

If it's not too smoggy, one of the best birds eye views of Santiago is from Cerro San Cristobal, a huge hill rising about 1000 feet over the city. At the top, there's an enormous statue of the Virgen Mary as well as a church and amphitheater--Pope John Paul II gave mass here in the 1980s. My favorite way to get to the top is by gondola (around $1800 pesos roundtrip); if you don't like being suspended over land though, you can always cab it up.

This place is the beating heart of Santiago's outdoors culture. It is indeed a tourist attraction, thanks to the Funicular you can take up to the top to visit the massive Virgen statute that overlooks the city, but it is far more used by locals than tourists. On a sunny sunday, you'll see thousands of cyclists pumping up the hill, families enjoying the pools or the playgrounds, dozens of people gathered for a free dance class on a plateau overlooking the city.

you can see contaminated Santiago, it's supposed to be a really intense problem; there are times when it's clear and you can see nicely the whole Santiago. We had a pic-nick there, it was a great idea to take food with us.

Spectacular view of Santiago and the Andes. We took the mini train to the top where we enjoyed the sunset. We even hopped the fence onto the rocks to get a better view. I would recommend that as long as you don't fall to your death.

At the end of Pio nono you can catch the funicular up the Cerro San Cristobal about 300m above the city. From the Terraza Bellavista you can go up to the summit where there is a huge statue of the Virgen de la Immaculada Concepcion. You can get a great view on Santiago when the smog allows, best is the view in winter. There is also a cable car access from Providencia it will bring you to the Restaurante Camino Real with his wine museum (ex. Enoteca)

It's a darn mini mountain more than a mere hill, I know, I biked my way up there! You can also hike your way up or take the old funicular. On clear days, you get absolutely gorgeous panoramic views of the sprawling city below, though admittedly clear days are a rare occurrence in famously smoggy Santiago.

This gives the best views over Santiago (at least on a clear day, which are few and far between).

Beautiful view of Santiago and the Andes. You can go up by walk, car or a lift. It's a good walk up, there is a lot of people jogging on the way. Also there is too many cars going up, what makes you always worry if is coming some car. Beautiful statue of Virgin Mary in the top. Nice place to watch a sunset!

Have your lunch at the top, then visit the zoo. Great views of the city and relaxing place to be. Some people bike or jog up the hill.

1800 acre park and recreational area with a lot of different access routes. Walk, drive, cable car, or you can ride up a funincular. Great views from up here, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your desire to clearly see smog levels on sunny days. When you get up here you can walk around, and the lookout point is overseen by the Virgen de la Immaculada Concepcion statue.
