manicured garden where the area's population of wealthy locals could stroll and consider their wealth in style. The 20th century brought the luxury factor here down quite a bit, but since the early 1990s there has been a redoubled effort to restore this beautiful location to it's former scenic glory. The climb to the top is a rigorous 20 minute walk, but on a clear day, well worth the views. Entrance is free but visitors must stop at a guest registry and provide their passport informatin.

Located steps from the civic center of Santiago, Cerro Santa Lucía is a historical and cultural icon of the city. The natives called it Huelén, a word that in Mapudungún means melancholy, sadness or pain. After the arrival of the Spaniards, Pedro de Valdivia he renamed it Santa Lucia and founded at his feet the city of Santiago, on February 12, 1541. It is a hill of 69 m. of height, which covers 65,300 m2 of extension.

Discover the hill where the city of Santiago was founded. Full of history, although not very well signposted, so you might want to google the place's significance before you visit! The Ermita Vicuña Mackenna is my favourite place on the hill: an 18th century chapel that sadly is now closed to the public due to earthquake damage. Go for the views and a nice green getaway in the middle of the city.

the Cerro itself is just ok but It is nice to have that kind of nature in the center of the city, the best of Cerro Santa Lucia is its neighbourhood and the cultural activities they have around.

Taking a leisurely stroll up to the very top of the Cerro Santa Lucía, or just hanging around on the grassy areas at the bottom, is one of my favourite things to do during the summer months in Santiago. The vegetation grows in a relatively wild manner across Santa Lucía, and it was the place where the city of Santiago was first officially founded. Therefore, it's an historically important place to visit too.

Following San Cristóbal Hill, Cerro Santa Lucía is another hill in Santiago that offers killers views. On its top, two castle-like forts were built in the 19th century. They were finished in 1820. The place features many statues and monuments and is a nice place to visit if you want to take a long walk and visit some amazing architecture.

This is a historic spot in Santiago. It's not as strenuous a climb as nearby Cerro San Cristobal but it provides lovely views of all of Santiago, and on a clear day, the Andes. It's kind of cool climbing those old stone paths and thinking about their role in the complex and frequently ugly colonial past of this country.

Cerro Santa Lucia is very historically important to the Chilean people, because it was here that Pedro Valdivia decided to found the city of Santiago. The top of Santa Lucia was naturally defensible from any enemy attack.

Located atop a hill in central Santiago, the Cerro Santa Lucía is a beautiful park that offers a number of attractions and one heck of a view. Rising nearly seventy meters above the already over sea level city in which it is situated, the Cerro Santa Lucía's main appeal is at her peak. Views of the city and the surrounding countryside are absolutely breathtaking, leaving only the area directly obscured by the city's central skyscrapers out of the view. The grounds of the park itself is impressively adorned with fountains and statues, including a memorial to one time visitor Charles Darwin. Don't miss your chance to take in this historic city from a historic location. Visit the Cerro Santa Lucía.
