Savannah Vacations

Savannah's hanging Spanish moss, 18th and 19th-century architecture and cobblestoned streets make it one of America's most charming cities, a veritable Southern belle of a metropolis. Established in 1733 as a slavery-free haven for debtors (lawyers and Catholics would not be allowed), Savannah later became an export center for slave-grown ... Read more
plantation cotton. Today, Savannah is a good-time town, where the locals joke that the first question anyone asks is what you'd like to drink, and the mystique of the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil continues to attract curious tourists. Walk along the river on River Street for boutique shops (though a touristy stream of similar-minded people), or head out for a more artsy, gallery-lined experience on Broughton Street. Of course, you shouldn't miss the opportunity for a picnic lunch in Savannah's version of Central Park: Forsyth Park.

It’s hard to beat Savannah in the springtime when the flowers are in bloom and the 70 degree Fahrenheit (low 20s Celsius) weather couldn’t be more perfect. Just know going into it that you won’t be alone: you’ ... Read more
ll find crowds in the parks and museums, long lines at restaurants, and higher hotel rates. The city gets especially wild on Saint Patrick’s Day (March 17) when the streets are swarming with green-beer-guzzling folks. For a quieter (but still pleasant) time, head here in October after the summer crowds have left. Winters can be chilly and grey, though mostly devoid of visitors; the only exception is when the town lights up for the holidays. Summers are hot and muggy with temperatures in the low 90s Fahrenheit (mid-30s Celsius).

I lived in this city for about four years and loved everything it has to offer. The city center offers a variety of foods, bars, and views.

Savannah is about 52 miles away. The city is designed in 1 mile adjacent squares with a church and park in the center of each. Fine dining and many sights to see.

Spent a lot of time along River Street in Savannah, GA during the July 4 week. Thousands of visitors filled the sidewalks throughout the city's Historic District, especially for the fireworks display on the river.

Savannah has been on my US travel bucket list for a while, so I'm very happy that I finally was able to make it out. The food is delicious (although did not make it out to Paula Deens restaurant) and the city is beautiful. There is a very rich history to the city and for anyone who likes ghost stories like me, there are so many legends and lore. The city has a lot that I love in a city.
