Scottsdale has great shopping and dining, impressive hiking mountains, and the unsurpassed Frank Lloyd Wright influence. A more expensive home base for exploring the Phoenix area than others but the top end motorcycle shops, Barrett Jackson auction, great breweries and cool, urban overpass art make it a must stop for me when I am spending time in the area.

I live here for a reason - heaven on earth most of the year (and feels like hell in the summer when it sometimes hits 120 degrees!!!)

A posh-ish suburb of Phoenix. The quality level and prices are higher here than in Phoenix but this is still touristville so don't expect real sophistication. A pleasant, convenient, affordable luxury destination. A good pool and spa get away with plenty of outdoor activities -- if you don't mind the heat. A good budget option for families.

This was the town that surpassed my expectations of the Southwest. TONS of things to do here. Great restaurants and shops. If you're in the Phoenix area, you need to hang out here for at least a couple nights.

Scottsdale itself isn't all that spectacular, but it's a great base for exploring the desert and surrounding hills.
