Shenzhen Vacations

Shenzhen transformed from simple rural hamlet to a metropolis almost overnight in the early 1980s. It does not have many historic sites of interest, but it is extremely commercialized with theme parks and shopping. Located right across from Hong Kong, it more often used as a travel hub then a destination itself. It has four harbors and its ... Read more

recommended for a visit if you have a say in the matter). Spring has warm temperatures, but days can often be plagued by fog and drizzle. Late fall is really ideal, with pleasant temperatures and plenty of blue skies. Book well in advance if you are traveling during major Chinese holidays (Chinese New Year, Golden Week) as tourists from the mainland can arrive en masse.

China's one of the most advanced cities. Public bus and metro have both English and Chinese instruction. So no problem for foreigners. Best city for shopping.

Shenzhen is a major city in the south of Southern of China Guangdong Province, situated immediately north of Hong Kong. The area became China's first and one of the most successful Special Econmic Zones. Once it is only a small village, most of the people here are fisherman.

If going to Shenzhen, China you must try the new BT8 Restaurant which is the sister restaurant of the fabulous Zen Restaurant in Belfast, N.Ireland. The address is 1st Floor Dingfeng Building, No 1036 Baoannan Road, LuoHu Shenzhen. The food is amazing and the cocktails and wines and interiors will blow you away. Ask for Dogarina Prosecco as it's one of the best from Italy and goes so well with Asian food because of the aromatics in the wine.

Shenzhen has really gone a long way from its more provincial past to it being one of the fastest growing cities in all of China. Also being a special economic / administrative region (SAR, like HKG) The new economic center is quite spectacular with international luxury brand hotels and modern sky scrapers.

The main attraction here is the shopping. If you know what you are coming for, then it can be really good. Everyone is going to come after you like vultures to make a sale. Stand your ground and do be afraid to haggle with the price. If they don't budge, you can leave. If they really want your business they will work with you or someone else will.

Shanghai, China

I like Shenzhen because it is way more down to earth than HK, but still has a decent standard of living. However, it is enormous, and traffic is killer, so you need to plot your time there strategically if you don't want to spend half of your time in transit.

Shenzhen is a unique and fantastic city to live and work. Close proximity to Hong Kong is a nice benefit.

a really different city in China. very modern, everything is new. but but people are from all over china. mostly from villages.and this made very poor chines culture in this city comparing to other cities of China.

I participated in the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen representing the United States of America (water polo). Alphabetically we were one of the last teams to enter the opening ceremonies, and this picture captures the moment as we walked into the sold out football sized stadium! An unforgettable moment that few people have experienced or even witnessed!
