construction of the Angkor Wat temple, and a section devoted to the Khmer kings. In one of the galleries, you can even enjoy over 1,000 images of Buddha. The maze-like construction of the spacious Angkor National Museum gives you ample opportunities to learn about the Khmer civilization, including their cultural and religious beliefs. After enjoying the museum exhibitions, rejuvenate at the coffee shop, or take part in the shopping opportunities at the mall located next to the museum.

This spacious and well-laid out museum provides an excellent introduction to the history of Angkor Wat. There are some impressive artefacts and the Gallery of 1,000 Buddhas is a stunning collection. The audio tour is worth taking as it gives a deeper understanding of Angkor and the people who lived there. Ideally, it's probably best to visit the museum prior to the temples. There's a decent café and a very good shop.

This was an unexpectedly great museum that covers not only the history of Angkor but also the country and its culture. I highly recommend, especially if you opted to do Angkor Wat without a guide and have pieced together your own understanding of the history and need something official to fill in the gaps.

A fantastic complement to a visit to the Angkor temples, this archaeological museum has remnants and artefacts from the height of the Angkorian Empire period. There are 8 galleries of exhibits and despite it being (as with so many attractions in Cambodia) privately owned, it is a highly rewarding experience.

This museum has many interesting exhibits pertaining to the Angkor archeological sites. It is a showcase of Khmer civilization and culture with many artifacts on display on different medias. Visit this for more insights on Angkor Wat and the rest of the temples.

I was actually surprised by the information and exhibits in the museum. In addition to galleries on Khmer and Angkor civilisation, there are rooms equipped with informative movies in several languages (one with a giant IMAX screen) and audio tours are available. The highlight is the Hall of a Thousand Buddhas which is beautifully lit.

I felt my visit to the temples was really enhanced after a visit to this museum. It's fairly new and very comprehensive. Be sure to pay attention to the different artistic styles and learn how to spot the different representations of gods.

I'm thrilled to see Cambodia finally get a high quality museum to showcase the wonderful historical artifacts of Angkor. Finally some competition for the Musée Guimet!

This museum still has some rough spots but it is an honest effort at an attractive and informative display of the treasure of Angkor. The collection is extensive, the lighting and placement are good, and the explanations are helpful even if they aren't as organized or informative as they could be.

Definitely worth a visit. Not at the expense of the major archeological sights but an informative way to take a break and enjoy a little air conditioning.

Please do not go to the Angkor National Museum and go visit the real "museum" by visiting the actual Angkor Wat site. It's a complete waste of time going to this museum. Our tour guide went and had us spend at least an hour checking out random statutes, 20 minutes of which was at the coffee stand (basically it was a way for us to spend money, even though we didn't want to).

Enjoyed it, but would have appreciated more displays of the life of the average Cambodian................if you're into statues of Budha in his many forms this is the place to go! I was expecting more on the people and culture.

If you have the time and you are not going to the temples with a tour guide, it's worth seeing before you go to Angkor. Make sure you take the audio tour. But if you have spent a few days at the temples with a guide, you can skip it.
