The Cambodian Landmine Museum Relief Facility was created so that it might serve as a place of healing for bodies, hearts and minds. We believe that love, support and education will help secure a better opportunity for the children that live here.

Eighteen miles outside Siem Reap, this small but engrossing museum can be incorporated into a trip to Banteay Srei Temple. Founded by an ex-child soldier Aki Ra, the museum tells his captivating story and gives visitors an insight into the history of landmines in Cambodia. I found the museum very moving and Aki Ra's life story is astonishing. The museum plays an important part in educating the world about the horrors that have occurred in Cambodia.

Great to visit, especially tie in with a trip to Banteay Srei district! The landmine museum was started by a former child soldier of the Khmer Rouge, Akira, on a mission to undo the evil work of the Khmer Rouge who planted landmines prolifically throughout Cambodia. He started the museum as a place to document this. Personally and then later with a team, he set about recovering and diffusing as many landmines as he could, the work continues today. The museum also supports a school program that establishes schools in some of the more rural areas in Cambodia. It’s a real look at the recent history of Cambodia and the amazing things that are now happening to restore peace and balance.

The Cambodia Land Mine Museum was originally a house containing a collection of defused landmines and explosive weapons which were uncovered and demined by a Khmer, Aki Ra. Ra previously charged US$1 to visitors who wish to see his collection but the museum is now funded and run by a Canadian NGO. Today, the museum tells visitors the story of Aki Ra, the horrors and impact of landmines, and helps to care for abandoned children who are living at the museum.

A eyeopener to the recent dark past of Cambodia. A visit is perfectly combined during your visit in Banteay Samre.

If your heading up towards Banteay Srei, you should drop by the Landmine Museum. The entrance fee is only $3 and you will learn a lot about how many landmines were and still are in Cambodia and how it effects the people. You will hear heart breaking stories, but the money goes to help the landmine victims and their families.
