A colonial design, 5 star hotel which is an icon of Singapore. Opened in 1887, it is one of the few remaining great 19th century hotels.

Opened in 1899, it was named after Singapore's founder Sir Stamford Raffles. Managed by Raffles International, it is known for its luxurious accommodation and superb restaurants. The hotel houses a tropical garden courtyard, museum and Victorian-style theatre. Raffles Hotel has a shopping arcade housing boutique brands. The third floor of the arcade houses the Raffles Hotel Museum and Jubilee Hall.

I haven't stayed at the Raffles, but I came here to admire the architecture, shop, and enjoy a Singapore Sling at their really cool Colonial Bar.

This is a very distinctive property and is certainly one of the very best in Singapore. That said it isn't perfect.

The rooms and butler service at the property are exceptional.

- spacious rooms
- retains historical features without feeling antiquated
- butlers are very attentive and pay attention to all of the little details (having coffee delivered with your wake up call is a real treat)

There are a few issues with the hotel

- beds aren't very comfortable. Duvets are very light weight (and air conditioning is difficult to control so it can get cold at night)
- service at food and beverage outlets is mixed. Service levels are normal for Singapore (i.e., bad) but not acceptable for a 5-star
- rooms could use some tech upgrades (more outlets, newer televisions with better in-room cable)
- rooms on lower floors can be noisy -- floors creak loudly when other guests walk around

All-in-all this is a great place and staying at the hotel is an experience.

Singapore's iconic grand old dame, The Raffles Hotel was once slated for demolition believe it or not, until the international community kicked up a fuss. It's worth a stroll. Try the tiffin brunch or their Sunday brunch. It's not cheap but it's the full works and it's nice to dine in such a historic building. I must confess I'm not a big fan of Singapore Sling, but a drink at the Long bar with it's peanut strewn floor is fun. Not a big fan of the luxury shops, but then again, that's a part of Singapore.

Yes, it's a legend and expensive. But today, although exceedingly comfortable Raffles is testament to the Disney-fication of Singapore's heritage as the island seems resigned to taking its place as the stopover-of-choice for paunchy Europeans and Americans on their way to somewhere else. If paying this prices in Singapore, personally I'd opt for the Fullerton or Mandarin if staying centrally.

Had to have the Singapore Sling on this famous terrace. Enjoyed every last drop, even though our 2 drinks cost us more than the hotel we stayed in!

A really beautiful hotel. Check out the gift store for some great gifts for friends and family.

The Sling is over priced, the hotel is over rated, but it is part of the history of Singapore, so its worth a look.

Stately. Classic. Traditional. Iconic. These are the first words that come to my mind at the mention of Raffles Singapore. The colonial styled architecture and the vast inner courtyards with grown coconut trees are very impressive.

I dont know if its true that its the home of the Singapore Sling but its got a very kitchy atmosphere with there nearly $20 usd singapore sling and plentiful peanuts.. the shells you can throw on the floor. hahahaha Such novelty!

My top rated hotel in Singapore - the best time to visit is either in the morning or afternoon and you can stroll along the shops at the hotel and enjoy afternoon tea or breakfast at the Ah Teng Bakery

Colchester, Essex

WOW! What a fantastic Hotel. Steeped in history and tradition, Raffles Hotel was truly a pleasure to visit! Unfortunately, I could not afford to actually stay here, but a few hours visiting was great. We had a "Singapore Sling" in the bar here, just to say that we'd been there and done that! A wonderful experience - don't miss it if you get the chance!

landmark hotel, takes you back in time - love the ceiling fans in the famous long bar

Birmingham, United Kingdom

we (me and the wife) visited the hotel in 2008 has part of our curse we got there early morning so the bar was not open for drinks its a lovely hotel but way out of my league to stay there but well worth a visit there are shops and restaurants within the hotel grounds the restaurants are of reasonable prices. Staff are very friendly and there is a museum with lots of photographs which take you back when it first opened :-)

San Francisco, California

The original creator of the Singapore Sling. We only went here to have the famous drink at the hotel bar. Fun atmosphere (think Casablanca-esque), but super pricey!

The beautiful Raffles Hotel is an escape back into colonial Singapore. Don't miss the famed Singapore Sling at Long Bar, where for $18 you get your drink and a bowl of peanuts and are then encouraged to toss the shells on the floor. Possibly the only place in the city where you can litter and won't get fined!

Santa Clara, California, USA

The Raffles Hotel is one of the oldest and most historic buildings in all of Singapore. It's a charming colonial enclave among all the modern skyscrapers which dominate Singapore. I would suggest you go to the bar section and order a Singapore Sling. It's their most famous cocktail drink and supposedly originated there. The bar apparently makes at least a thousand a day.

Forget the touristy Long Bar, go instead to the Bar & Billiard Room. The martini list is *extensive* and atmosphere far more grand & interesting than the LB
