When I entered the place, it was dark and cosy. A single light shines on the person at the reception. He is very friendly and explained the facilities of the hostel to me. There is a minimart selling snacks and drinks at affordable prices at the reception, and a chill outdoor alfresco area just outside the hostel, where you can put your legs up and watch people. In the next room, there is a dining area that resembles japanese, with low wide tables and cushions to sit on the floor. This hostel has fully air conditioned rooms and double decker beds with thick mattresses and fluffy pillows. With free unlimited wifi and located in a place that is near all the cultural attractions of Singapore, you will be hard-pressed not to love this place!
Cozy and laid-back with a great sense of community - the quintessential backpacker experience. With an unlimited supply of free wifi, local advice and recommendations, they even organize a free weekly social/tour in the historic Arab St area, famous for its culture and nightlife. The cafe (where breakfast is served) smells toasty good, where computer terminals were available for those traveling especially (technologically) light. Bonus points for the rooftop garden, the perfect place to chill out, make friends, and sunbathe! One unfortunate caveat though: the entrance smelled the way you'd expect a student dorm to smell, and that's not a scent you can easily forget! The MRT station(s) are also quite a walk away, a distance that seems less bearable in the scorching mid-day heat.
Fun and friendly are the words that come to mind to describe the Green Kiwi. The hostel is quite new so everything’s in great condition and really clean – especially the bathrooms. The dorms are air-conditioned so stay nice and cool. Instead of a lounge there’s a rooftop garden which is perfect for chatting with other travelers. Hanging out on the rooftop is much cheaper option than going to a bar and the hostel sells cheap Tiger Beer. Rates include breakfast with toast, fresh fruit, and espresso coffee (no Nescafe here!). The dorms are a great value, but you do need to pay $1 more for a towel or a locker. If you have a late flight or bus out of Singapore they’ll let you hang around the hostel past checkout time. The location is a bit outside of the city center but you can walk to the MRT and there’s a bus stop across the street.
An acceptable option in the Lavender Road neighborhood of Singapore, the dorms and rooms here are clean if ordinary, though the bathrooms are looking a little run down. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the included breakfast with fresh fruit and real coffee is better than most.
The Green Kiwi is a nice quiet and laidback hostel nicely nestled within a 5-minute walking distance from Boon Keng MRT, and a couple bus stops away from Lavendar MRT. Both stations are easy access to Singapore’s main attraction sites! Dormitories are a bit tight with a choice of mixed or female dorms, and they also have 6 – 12 beds dormitory choices which are great for friends travelling in large groups. Beds are clean and simple. Bed charge includes breakfast which is served daily together with a cup of gourmet European coffee. Their toilets are kept very clean and use rain shower fittings! The Green Kiwi also provides free wifi and some computers for communal use. The best part of Green Kiwi that sets it apart from the rest is its rooftop garden – a really idyllic and cozy lounge area that is fantastic for chilling with friends at the end of the day. The only downside to the Green Kiwi is that if you need towels or lockers, you will need to pay extra.
