century at the time of Islamic rule. About 1415 King John sponsored a rebuilding campaign and most of the palace dates to that time. The Swann's Room and Pegas' Room contain beautiful paintings. Sintra National Palace is now an important tourist attraction that is also a National Monument. Architect Raul Lino restored tile panes and placed old furniture so tourists can enjoy its splendor.

After a winding bus ride up the hill I was happy to be on stable ground . I was welcomed warmly with a brilliant smile & told I could take pictures with no flash. It was kinda bland but with some interesting stone works, wall tiles & a beautiful garden

An interesting palace with unusual artefacts but this is probably the least interesting of the main sights that Sintra has to offer. By all means take a tour but spend your time at the other more interesting palaces such as Pena and Quinta de Regaleira.

The highlight really is the kitchen and looking up those amazing chimney stacks. It's also got a lot of great tile. It's right in the center of Sintra, steps from the tourist information office.

All of the palaces that are in Sintra are amazing and this one is right up there with the Palace de Pena. Maybe not as colorful and historical, but still a site you should see.

The Sintra National Palace is also called Town Palace and was reached by Gayle and me at the bottom of the hill after we walked down from the Moorish Castle. It is the best preserved mediaeval Royal Palace in Portugal, having been inhabited more or less continuously at least from the early 15th up to the late 19th century. It is an important tourist attraction and is part of the Cultural landscape of Sintra, designated World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We thoroughly enjoyed or tour through the various parts of the Palace.
