St. Barthelemy Vacations

St. Barts has long been considered a playground of the rich and famous, but the island isn't limited to just CEOs and television hosts. Families have been coming here for generations, and the islanders themselves have an infectiously welcoming spirit. Vacationing here sometimes feels like summer camp for the comfortably well-to-do. The island is as ... Read more
casual and friendly as it is refined and elegant. No, you won't find cheap package hotel rooms, but you also won't find any casinos, cruise ships, fast food chains or malls. If you want sophisticated nightlife or an overstuffed cheeseburger, St. Barts will have you covered. Many of the islanders here are descendants of European (mostly French and Swedish) immigrants who arrived 350 years ago. It was a tough and often hostile existence for hundreds of years, but now that ferries and planes bring in gourmet food and tourist dollars, the island is relaxing into retirement. Villas are more popular than hotel rooms; find a half-dozen friends or family members to share one and do some cooking at home, and a week-long stay could be downright affordable.

Stunning island. Incredible flight in on a small plane in a tiny airstrip over a beach filled with people. It can be scary for some, but was so much fun. It's a safe island and everything for the most part is well done. Great restaurants, bars and hotels. We stayed at the Guanahani. It's expensive though. Seashell beach has crystal clear water and is near perfect. I've been to 14 islands in the Caribbean and this is right at the top.

Beautiful island - small enough to be personable. Incredible beaches, although many of them are private. The upscale of the whole place is a little much, but that seems to be what the visitors are seeking.

One of my Absolute favorite places and by far my favorite island in the world, St Barthelemy is much more than the hype implies. Even if it's a hot spot for celebrities, this french-speaking island is incredibly mellow and the people could not be nicer, plus the natural beauty just can't be topped. Virtually crime-free, this island is unlike any other island in the Carribean. St Barths is a wonderful island to visit in the off-season, especially for those looking to avoid the see-and-be-seen scene, of the sort that exists around new years. This is not an island for the super-frugal, but it is possible to go to St Barths without totally breaking the bank and there are deals to be found, so it's worth doing your homework.

St. Barthelemy or St. Barts for short, is located in the French West Indies and is a short boat ride (1 hour) or even shorter plane ride (30min) away from St. Maarten. This is a lush green, mountainous island with stunning, rustic beaches - known for luring celebs like J-Lo and Jay-Z. The island's downtown hub is swanky and pricy, but with some planning and searching you can arrange an amazing vacation and rent out a hilltop villa with 360 degree views for the week ($2,000-$3,000 USD). http://www.sbhonline.com/St-Barts-Villa-Rentals/St-Barts-Villas.htm
