It might be windy but a great location to see icebergs or a panorama of the city.

Hike up Signal Hill for spectacular views of the Narrows and the mighty Atlantic Ocean. I don't recommend this hike for the elderly or small children.
Enjoy!

A standard "must do" on any trip to St John's. Add a hike from Cuckolds Cove to the battery and cab it back to your car.

The most popular attraction in St. John's. This is not a tourist trap but an iconic location with panoramic views of St. John's, Cape Spear and the North Atlantic. In my CapeRace book, The Traveller's Diary, I recommend daly visits by foot or car. It's also a fantastic place to visit in the evening. Our house shares the property line with Signal Hill National Park and has door-step access to the Signal Hill hiking and walking trail system. You can even hike to Linda's famous pub known as the Inne of Olde. Great for fitness nuts.

My visit to this gorgeous historic outpost was a good excuse for day hike on a beautiful Newfoundland summer day. The views from Signal Hill are outstanding - both of downtown St. Johns and the sea and coastline beyond. Apparently, this is where the first telegraph was sent across the Atlantic, so there is a good bit of history as well. Very nice spot to visit.

This historic site celebrates the rich communications and military history of Signal Hill and sits amidst a spectacular view of St. John's and the sea. Signal Hill was the reception point of the first transatlantic wireless signal by Guglielmo Marconi in 1901, as well as the site of harbour defences for St. John's from the 18th century to the Second World War. Enjoy a performance of the 19th-century military drills by the Signal Hill Tattoo (in season), or take a hike from the summit along the coast and harbour entrance.
