Stellenbosch Vacations

This scenic city is also known as Eikestad, which translates as "Oak City," a nickname that Stellenbosch owes to most of its streets being lined by the familiar trees. cuisine. Stellenbosch is known for its thriving wine industry, so it is fitting that their cuisine is exceptionally delicious and eclectic as well. Walking throughout the city is an absolute pleasure, while the numerous cafes, interestingly furnished museums, and wineries are just a fraction of the many things to do. A truly charming little city, Stellenbosch is a great place to enjoy a romantic portion of your vacation in South Africa.

Cute little village loaded with Art Galleries and restaurants. Also right by the famed vineyards.

The heart of the South African winelands, and less than an hour's drive from Cape Town, the university town of Stellenbosch is a quaint, quiet, charming little place to crash out for a few days sampling the finest in South African oenology (that's wine, btw!). Set in dry velvety mountains and rolling hills covered with grape arbor, the town has a wealth of fine restaurants, shops and galleries, like a taste of Napa without all the snootiness. You can visit the wineries from Cape Town as a day trip, but consider staying here for a night or two just to enjoy the atmosphere.

I shouldn't be saying this as a native of Sonoma County, but the wines from Stellenbosch are the best - and excellent value. Just thinking about the Redhill Pinotage from Simonsig winery is making my mouth water. There are some fabulous wineries in the area plus spectacular scenery, awesome restaurants, and great shopping downtown.

Very interesting Afrikaans city in the western cape with great wine farms, a regional university and fine dining. We stayed in Somerset West nearby for a conference. If you are in southern Africa it would a shame to miss it.

Stellenbosch is a little under an hour by car from Cape Town and is the wine area for South Africa. Surrounded up tall mountains, it has the perfect climate for growing grapes. Many of the activities involve wine. I was in town for a marathon though, so I wasn't partaking.

Lots of wineries in the area. Good place to see traditional Cape Dutch architecture from the 1800s.

The Stellenbosch Winelands in South Africa is one of the more beautiful areas I've ever had the pleasure of visiting in my lifetime. Stunning route to there + excellent fun at the wineries themselves. A fun day trip outside of Cape Town. Not to be missed.
