Amazing experience the view is breathtaking. Try to share the boat ride with other tourists as the fares go from 1500p up. We found a lodge called San roque where a lovely lady helped us out finding other people to share the ride with and cut the costs.

Awesome looking lake and volcano. If you really want to see the lake, you'd have to spend at least a full day in the island.

Nice location for the day trip from Makati. It takes 2 hours bus transport from Makati to Tagaytay. Then take the boat to the island inside the lake.

Make sure you actually get down the mountain to the lake and not stuck up top where most of the tourist traps are, talking about you Tagaytay Picnic Grove. Finding a guide is probably extremely useful too that way you can arrange a boat ride to the volcano island.

A volcano within a lake within a volcano. It's not entirely dormant, but it's tame enough that you you can safely hike up to the top (and back down) or ride horseback. If you opt for the former (it's about 30-45 mins one way, depending how fast you trek it), beware the horse dung littering the trail, particularly at the entrance. I'd recommend walking over riding, but know it's not for the faint of heart...though it's not really a difficult climb. It's still a pretty undeveloped area, and I can't yet decide if some minor commercialism will improve or deteriorate the experience. When you reach the top, have some fresh coconut juice as you admire the view. I didn't see where, but some tourists were driving golf balls from up there. There's a hidden trail off the main path...it's covered in fauna, but opens up to an area with even more stunning views.

This lovely volcano within a lake within a volcano is beautiful. A good reason to get out of Manila (as if you need one). The drive can be pretty long if the traffic is bad (and the traffic is always bad). Grab lunch in one of the many restaurants overlooking it.

Very doable as a day trip from Manila.

One of the highlights during my Philippines trip this past summer was trekking to the middle of Taal Volcano. I trekked up there with some family friends and we had some guides that led us up there and toured us around. We first has to ride a boat across the lake to get to the base of the island where the volcano was. There we met our guides and we were each pair with a small horse which we rode up to the top of the crater. When we finally got to the top, there was a small shaded resting place to take a break and some photos from the top of the crater. It was an amazing view up there. Then the guides asked us if we wanted to trek down to the actual crater and we agreed. The trek down to the crater was a bit steep on some parts and there was plenty of brush and trees around. I would suggest to wear pants and shoes so you don't get scratches on your legs. Soon we finally got to the crater and it was really warm down there and you could see all the gas and sulfur rising from the ground. It was amazing to see parts of the lake even boiling! If you are planning a trip to the Philippines, you should consider venturing out to Taal Lake an Volcano. It's a sight to see!

This picturesque place is where the Taal Volcano is situated. To reach the volcano island, you have to cross the lake that separates it from the mainland. You can hike to reach the uphill climb to the crater or you can also have a horse backride to the top. The view from the top is amazing!

Famous tourist spot just south of Manila in the Luzon Island. It's a volcano in the lake, the crater or tip is the only part above water. A must-see when you're in the area.

Beautiful. From the mountain drive to the horse trek to the edge. But very crowded.

If you have time for a day trip out of the city, Taal is worth it. Great views! Loved actually going out on the island in the lake as well, though the ground was literally almost too hot to stand on the day we were there due to volcanic activity!

Well worth the visit when you go to Tagaytay. You take a banca (boat) over to the larger volcano. You can rent a horse to get to the rim, but we walked the 3-4 kilometers up to rim. It was a real slog with the sun beating down on the black vocanic rock; we might not want to walk up again. The veiws from the top were beautiful.

Actually quite amazing, especially if you've never visited an active volcano before. Word of advice: don't stick your hand near any of the steam vents ;-)

It's a volcano inside a lake inside a volcano...well at least that's how our tour guide described it. They also failed to mention that it was a fairly active volcano (historically, at least), but it was nice to know that after we had left. Nice day-trip away from Manila.

In the city of Tagaytay, sits Taal Volcano and Lake. From a distance it looks like a small island, but to get close and see the beautiful views in the very city, breathtaking! There is much history of the Volcano as it had erupted more than 20 times. Completely destroying parts of Metro Manila, but the city is still growing so don't be alarmed. Until this day, people still gravitate towards this place as a tourist spot to get a view of the volcano. This is definitely not one to miss when you're visiting!
