Tijuana Vacations

Tijuana is the main gateway city between the United States and Mexico, but it certainly doesn't give any indication to the beauty that lies south. Long known as grimy and seedy, Tijuana can now add dangerous, due to a protracted drug war that centers in Northern Mexico, especially near the border. The safest part of Tijuana, by far, is the ... tourist-laden Avenida Revolucion. Less than an hour south of downtown San Diego, Tijuana's main strip offers all manners of entertainment, bawdy and otherwise. Yes, there is much drinking and undressing, but there is also a welcoming Mexican culture, many residents who have migrated from elsewhere in Mexico to earn a living. Look close enough and you'll find decent street food, shopping, and a fascinating cultural center.

Well, what can I say about Tijuana? Its a one night party getaway while in college to drink and drink. Those days its so easy to cross the border and cross back.

My first time visiting Tijuana in about 20 years! I had a great time checking out new restaurants and coffee shops with local friends.

Minutes from San Diego, it is one of the better weekend getaways if planned properly. The only setback is the wait to go back in the US at the border. Cheap beer and lobster by the ocean, what more can you ask for? Recommended if you can speak Spanish or bring a trusted Spanish-speaking friend.

You are sure to find amazing people here as you travel around this area. Everyone are friendly and really helpful when your looking to find an authentic Hispanic restaurant. The prices for buying food are on the low end so it makes it easy for you travel budgeters to maintain your expenses. The most delicious food you will ever eat from beef tamales to steak carrne asada. You can find cool things to do away from the tourist attraction area. I have still yet to explore more...

Adventurous to travel to another country? Don't drive into Tijuana. Park your car near the border and walk across. Hold on to your wallet!

One of the best gorditas I've ever had. That and a Mexican coke costed 28 pesos ($1 and some change). I need to go back again on my next trip to Tijuana.

Round out your vacation with a quick trip to Tijuana or Ensananda Mexico. It will take all day, best to take a taxi at the Mexico side of the boarder. Best to drink bottled water on this trip. The Mexico Boarder is about 40 min drive.

If you are adventurous check out Tijuana but be sure to cover yourself with insurance and knowledge of where to go. It is a different country that offers some shopping and great deals. It's safety is always one to wonder so proceed with caution.

When I visited Tijuana, it was a number of years ago and it was great. I might wait until things settle down a bit before visiting again, but there are a number of fun day tours to Tijuana from San Diego if you don't want to drive down yourself. Arts and crafts, bars, and fishing expeditions to Ensenada seem to top the list, in my mind.
