Description
Mount Lemmon is a “sky island” in Southern Arizona that provides striking natural beauty, a ski resort, many hiking trials, campgrounds and Summerhaven. A sky island is a mountain that is surrounded ... Read more
by a dramatically different environment. This 9,000 foot tall mountain has great waterfalls, creeks and forest areas. The views on Mount Lemmon are so striking that you shouldn't miss out on them. If you are most interested in skiing, then make sure to visit during the winter. There is no snow to be found on this mountain in the spring, summer, or fall. However, when it does begin to snow on Mount Lemmon, there is more than enough snow for skiing. Some of the hiking trails and roads are closed off in the winter, because of the snow and ice. Only certain roads are regularly plowed. The upper campgrounds are also closed, but the lower campgrounds are open during all of the seasons. Regardless of what time of the year you visit Mount Lemmon, you must check out Summerhaven, a village at the very top of the mountain. Summerhaven is known for its delicious pie and has multiple shops and restaurants. In a sense, you should determine what you are really looking for out of this trip, because your experience will differ, depending on whether it is winter-time or not. The ski resorts are open year-round, but you cannot ski during spring, summer, or fall due to the lack of snow. However, you do get to see a fabulous view on the lift.

Best view in Tucson! Great for photography and hiking. During the winter time there is also a ski resort at the top. There is a cookie cabin at the top which has a peach cobbler that will blow your mind. It is a definite must if you plan on visiting Mount Lemmon.

Beautiful places to hike, climb, or just sight see! Temperatures can be 20-30 degrees cooler up top! The village of Summerhaven is popular with cyclists and hikers as a place to stop and grab a bite to eat at Sawmill Run or the Cookie Cabin.

Located just 45-minutes to 1-hour to the summit . This is such an amazing place & a very quick scenic drive up the mountain. Don't second guess this 1/2 day trip or make it a full day if you like, it's nice to have choices.

Mountain Lemmon is worth going to just for the hour-long drive through landscapes that range from low desert to high mountain elevations of 9000+ ft covered in pine forests. The winding road ends up at the small village of Summerhaven, truly a cool haven for desert dwellers to escape the heat in summer or enjoy skiing and sledding in the winter. I love to stop for lunch or pie and coffee at any of the restaurants or Ski Valley Resort.
