The Opus Hotel is stylish and cheeky; it is definitely one of the trendier hotels in the city. With striking design and a colorful palate, the boutique hotel is the recipient of many accolades. Opus Hotel calls Yaletown home and is surrounded by many of the city’s best restaurants, among them is Opus Hotel’s own La Pentola.

The hotel’s style is trés glamorous but at the same time, quirky and loud. The rooms are designed and decorated around different vibrant, bold colors. Design inspiration was drawn from the ‘70s and reinterpreted with a fresh take. The newly renovated bar even features zebra marble.

I had the pleasure of staying here in the penthouse suite on my birthday. The room was stunning, with a wraparound balcony that featured stunning views. The rooms itself was gorgeous as well, and the staff made the visit very memorable. We enjoyed walking all over town, and the casinos weren't far at all, which also made for a nice birthday after a big win. I can't wait to return.

OPUS hotel is in the middle of Yaletown, Vancouver’s trendiest neighbourhood, which makes it feel more like you’re crashing at a friend’s condo than checking into a hotel. Like the area, the hotel is very image-conscious: rooms are categorized into five personality types (e.g. Billy the musician, Susan the fashionista, etc.), which translates into customized décor, music and dining recommendations. But book the penthouse at your own risk—loud animal prints and a large photograph of red lips are meant to be playful, but come across as tacky. That said, everything here seems to be done with a smile and a sexy wink, from the unique turndown treats such as Pez dispensers and oversized lollipops, to the very cool street-view washrooms with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Unfortunately, the cool factor seems to have rubbed off on the doorman and front desk attendant, whose stiff demeanor gave the impression that they’d rather be guests than employees. The manager and restaurant staff, however, were super-friendly and personable.

I like this hotel not because it’s a part of the ‘scene’ but because it’s a great place to stay if you want to get a taste of the coveted Vancouver lifestyle. The seawall is just two blocks away, so you can borrow one of the hotel’s bicycles—which they loan out for free—and ride along the waterfront. Some of the city’s top restaurants are within walking distance (seafood lovers MUST experience Blue Water Café, just across the street). Plus, they are truly pet-friendly because they don’t charge for your pooch.

Situated in trendy Yaletown, Opus Hotel is a great base for your Vancouver stay. It may not offer up some of the mountain views that other downtown hotels do, but what Opus lacks in view, it makes up for in boutique style. The neighborhood of Yaletown is filled with great restaurants and uber-modern Vancouver architecture to explore.

One of the funkiest hotels that I’ve ever visited, the Opus uses deep, vibrant colours throughout its hotel. Each room even has a personality attached to it with a book, music, colour scheme, and restaurant suggestions to match. By selecting “Pick Your Inner Opus” on the website, you can decide if you’re a vibrant and outgoing Pierre, a stylish and sophisticated Susan, or another of the five personalities developed by the hotel.

Unfortunately there also seems to be a mix of personalities at the hotel with some of the staff being quite pleasant, fun, and helpful, while others are just plain aloof. It’s hard to feel the funky vibe of the hotel lobby with unsmiling doormen and desk clerks who seem reluctant to help and downright unhappy to be there.

If you like to be seen, though, Opus is certainly has a lot of the right ingredients. A lobby-bar that turns into a nightclub for the wealthy and fabulous at night, and a location in Yaletown where trendy dining and shopping will not go easy on your wallet but may leave you feeling connected to Vancouver’s young, rich, and fabulous.

This is one of those places that you can stay an indefinite number of days and never feel tired or too much away from home. I am not prone to homesickness though so maybe that's why ... but this place is just absolutely amazing.

I'm not sure where it is rated on Tripadvisor in Vancouver but I got a great deal off of Jetsetter and knew that I wanted to stay here to enjoy the city. This is located in Yaletown district literally across the street from a mile of little boutique shops, restaurants, bars, etc. The night life here is unbeatable and the onsite restaurant is not too shabby.

The bar at night is a little weird and creepy for me though, their menus are on the wall and they play internet mimi's (is that how it's spelled?) everywhere.

The beds are superb, the showers are superb, the toiletries are superb. What isn't? They offer free champagne or water upon check in, although everything in Vancouver takes about five years so expect a long wait when you're checking in.

The fitness center is nice, the business center has free internet and every room has an iPod dock that the maids make sure to turn onto nice pleasant music for your return. They even gave us treats every single night in the form of candies, cookies, fresh water, etc. Sigh, simply wonderful.
