The Rosewood Georgia Hotel recently went through extensive renovations and its transformation is stunning. It hosts one of the city’s most prestigious restaurants, Hawksworth, as well as the perfect downtown lunch spot Bel Café, and two premiere bars. Reflections is its rooftop bar on the fourth floor offering a lounge-like feel with its courtyard sitting on top of a pool of water, giving the bar its namesake.

Hotel Georgia is the epitome of modern elegance. While the lobby and exterior of the hotel keep the historic frame and charm, the interior has been renovated with new amenities; the rooms and bathrooms are the essence of chic. The hotel incorporates a roaring 20’s theme, complete with a new bar, Prohibition, which is located underneath. The rooms come equipped with Nespresso machines and flat screen TVs. The bathroom resembles your own private spa. Or if you’re feeling in the mood for an actual spa, pay a visit to their luxurious spa for some pampering sessions. If you’re visiting in the summer, be sure to have a drink at their seasonal Reflections lounge, which offers a serene oasis in the midst of the urban city centre. The location can’t be beat, with sky train stops, bus lines, and attractions all nearby.

This historic hotel in Vancouver boasts a long list of A-list guests from Queen Elizabeth II to the Beatles. And, following millions of dollars of renovations, it's probably more luxurious now than it was in the 1930s!

With rooms starting from $300, I had high expectations and they were exceeded. The entry level rooms (superiors) are huge with your choice of a king size bed or two doubles, a work desk, flat screen TV, Bose iPod dock, Nespresso maker, and luxurious slippers and robe. The bathroom is heavenly with a heated floor, walk-in rain shower, and spa bath products. I can't imagine how luxurious the suites must be!

The facilities are top-notch too with a saltwater lap pool, gym, and a full-service spa. The are a number of dining options within the hotel, but needless to say they are quite expensive too and there are plenty of other, more reasonable options within walking distance!

This is the kind of hotel that Vancouver needs more of if it’s ever going to be a “world-class city.” The Rosewood Georgia Hotel is filled with sophistication and an exceptional level of service that even spills onto the street—when I paused outside before entering the hotel, the doorman (thinking I was a lost tourist) kindly asked if he could help me with directions. At that point, he didn’t even know I was heading to his hotel!

Upon entering the lobby, it quickly became clear why the renovation took 4 ½ years. A phenomenal job has been done restoring not only the building, but also many original features like clocks, elevator doors, etc. What amazed me was that it didn’t feel like an old hotel that had been renovated. Instead, it felt more like I had stepped back in time to 1927 when it was originally built. People like Katherine Hepburn and Elvis have stayed here.

Nowadays, the city’s hotshot bankers and lawyers have found a place worthy of their patronage, at Hawksworth Restaurant’s bar and lounge. (Don’t leave without trying the Hotel Georgia—a mixture of gin, orgeat, orange blossom, egg white, and nutmeg. It’s $12, but worth every penny).

The rooms live up to the rest of the hotel, and even entry-level rooms have huge washrooms with free-standing bathtubs and heated floors.

The only thing lacking is outdoor space. There’s a large indoor pool, as well as an outdoor Miami-style lounge/bar area called Reflections, but nowhere to bask in the sun. Instead, you can bask in the hotel’s splendour.

The newly renovated Rosewood Hotel Georgia has class from the minute you walk through the front doors, through your walk through the long, classic lobby, until you finally enter your room. Clearly flaunting its history as a hotel from the “roaring 20’s”, the hotel has balanced the creamy furnishings and wallpaper with dark wood panelling and details. The lobby bar is even called, “1927”. All of this is pulled-off in a manner that makes for a long, glamorous lobby (and lobby lounge) that’s low-lit and elegant and rooms and function spaces that are bright and inviting. The bright and inviting feeling is particularly important since the hotel has – probably as a result of it 1927 birthday - narrow rooms and even narrower hallways.

While the rooms range between a standard room for a few hundred a night to the penthouse for several thousand a night (once the private deck-with-a-view-hot-tub-and-barbeque is seen, it’s clear why the room is worth this much), all of the rooms are gorgeous and feature opening windows and similar bathrooms with a large soaker tub, separate rain-shower and frosted toilet rooms; the larger rooms just have more than one bathroom. I would however, avoid the courtyard-facing rooms on lower floors as they face Hotel Georgia’s Reflections lounge that has a rather noisy water-feature.

The hotel is situated in a prime location across the street from the Vancouver Art Gallery and is a short walk from Robson Street’s busy shopping district and definitely worth a stay or two.
