and open at 5pm. Does not matter when you arrive, expect a waiting time for about 1,5 hours. You can put your name down and wander around or just sit down there and have a drink either outside on the patio or inside at their lounge bar. They bring out some little bites while you wait. All the staff is top notch.

Great take on modern Indian cuisine. Their selections are absolutely delicious - especially the lamb popsicle and lamb and beef Samosa dishes. Their mango lassi is fantastic as well. Be prepared to wait however, they don't take reservations and waits are about 1 hour on busy nights. That said, the wait is actually a fun part of the experience as they have a nice lounge downstairs with drinks and tables and all charges go to your table once you get seated.

VIJ has built himself a nice little Indian food empire. The food here is unique and delicious.
They don't take reservations, so you can be waiting for quite awhile. We waited about 30 minutes in their lounge where they had table service and an occasional hot appetizer going around.
I especially liked the two spoonful appetizers on the menu, the pork belly and the spicy cashews are a great way to start your meal.
The mutton kebobs in red curry was tasty as well as the short ribs which were plentiful.
The service is fantastic. Everyone on the staff pitched in and knew what you were having. I think Vikram's outgoing and friendly personality is instilled in his staff.
My only gripe about ViJs is that there wasn't much of the hot and spicy flavor on the menu.

Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. This is not your traditional Indian restaurant - it's modern and stylish, with dim lighting and cool music. But the food is out of this world. We started with the chickpeas on kale - they were super spicy but so flavorful I could exist entirely on their goodness. We also had the eggplant, served with fried onions in a tomato curry. The curry was also fantastic. I thought the fried onions were good but a bit of a distraction. For mains we had the lamb - perfectly cooked atop an amazing garlicky cream curry, and the saag paneer and dal, which was also better than any I've had. The sauces were all so good we literally were sweeping up every drop with our naan. Be warned - this place is very popular and does not take reservations. Expect to wait 90 minutes. It's not as bad as it sounds. They have a cool patio and a lounge where you can order drinks or bring your own wine and drink for a corkage fee. They bring out hot snacks to much on. It's fun. Don't miss it.

Vij's has an extensive wine list and cocktail menu -- this fact alone should be enough to indicate this is not a "traditional" Indian restaurant, but an upscale West coast interpretation of such.

I thoroughly enjoyed dinner here - the hors d'oeuvres while you wait for a table (they do NOT take reservations), the endless servings of warm, buttery naan bread, and meeting the charming Vij.

I went with a group of 4 friends and we shared plates, so I had a chance to try many items (jackfruit dish, samosas, stuffed peppers, chicken curry, kofta, beef). The flavours were complex and subtle, but with Indian food I expect a punch of flavour -- and none of the dishes at Vij's knocked my socks off.

If you want a meal of delicious, modern, beautifully presented Indian-inspired cuisine paired with great wine, Vij's is amazing. It you want a meal of traditional Indian cuisine with rich, bold flavours, you may be disappointed.

The best Indian food in Vancouver. No reservations and doors open at 5:30PM so be there early or settle in to wait for a table. It's worth it!

You like Indian food, you like Indian food with a flare. The pork tenderloin is so tender and flavourful. It is pricier but it's all worth it. You will enjoy the food and people here.

People rave about the food here, but to be honest, while very good not sure that it qualifies for the superlatives that are usually attached (best Indian food in North America etc..). That being said, it is very good and love the atmosphere of the place. Some would quibble with the no reservation policy and the occasional long wait for a table that results from that, but with a good beer and wine list, and a nice little bar waiting area along with free tasty Indian snacks, there are ample things to occupy you while you wait!

Great cocktails, hit or miss food, average service. That sums up my visit to Vij's. While I enjoyed the tender marinated lamb popsicles, the salmon we ordered was quite disappointing and came to the table dry. Vij's does not take reservations so be prepared to wait at least an hour to be seated. In the meantime, check out the bar in the back of the restaurant, enjoy a cocktail and snack on the complimentary appetizers on the bar countertop.

OMG. Personally, Indian food is not my pref, but this modern Indian restaurant is just perfect. Go have dinner there. You should know that they don't take reservations and you should expect a long, long waiting list. Plan to tour the area while you wait.
