The quintessential "tourist trap." Only 2-hour parking ( city police are ready to ticket ), pricey restaurants, and souvenir shops. There's a nice food market, but whats a food market without samples? If you've been to Santa Monica Pier or the Navy Pier in Chicago - you know what Granville Island is like; overcrowded, limited parking, and overpriced. Nothing special.

We love going to Granville Island whether to shop for fresh food in the marketplace, find interesting gifts in the various crafts and other shops, or simply to walk about and enjoy the unique setting. There are also live theatres, fun buskers, restaurants and cafes. Check them out online to find out what's going on there - maybe the writer's festival, maybe the symphony at night, Canada Day festivities... A must visit when you are in Vancouver.

AKA Vancouver Fisherman's wharf. Granville Island offers a variety of amenities: public market, arts and crafts, gourmet food courts, award winning restaurants, brewery, coffee shops, live music, water taxi, kids zone, marina to just name a few. Great place to soak in the relax Vancouver live style.

Photos were taken at Fisherman's Wharf which is just west of Granville Island. You can purchase FRESH fish right off the boat there!

VANCOUVER ATTRACTIONS See all
Granville Island
Brimming with arts and crafts studios, bars and restaurants with eye-popping views, Granville Island is a popular spot for visitors and locals alike. Though it’s really a peninsula, jutting out into False Creek, the island draws visitors who can wander the pedestrian-friendly alleyways while enjoying the sounds of the buskers and the sights along the waterfront.

The Granville Island Public Market is a definite highlight, as travelers can trawl the deli-style food stalls and artisan stands in search of something good to eat. Art lovers can wander through the three galleries of up-and-coming artists at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design, while the under-10 set loves the Kids Market, which bristles with kid-friendly stores, mostly of the toy variety. For a little respite, entice the kids away from the shops and head to the huge Granville Island Water Park.

Once you’ve exhausted the market and artisan stores, you’ll have no problem finding other things to do here. You can paddle False Creek with a kayak, tour Granville Island Brewing or catch an evening show. Come September, the ever-popular Vancouver International Fringe Festival stages myriad performances in many of the Granville Island venues.

I love Granville Island. When I first visited Vancouver in 1988, we stay at my aunt's apartment across the creek and took the little ferry boat over to Granville Island just to have their great seafood!

Total tourist destination but worth a quick visit. Not very big so you can walk around the whole island easily. Lots of local artists shops and dining spots.

This is an awesome area to explore (albeit a little difficult to get to -- I suggest walking rather than any form of motorized transport, because the traffic can get pretty horrendous). The place is bursting at the seems with food, art, and shops, plus there were a bunch of street performers there when we went. I love a good spontaneous comedy/magic show.

You'll still probably want to pack your umbrella if it's raining.. but everything around Granville Island is just a short dash through cobbled streets. Peruse the indoor market stocked in local goods, do a beer tasting at the brewery, get some awesome fresh seafood, and then catch a show either at the Granville Island Theatre, or try Theatre Sports if nothing else is playing!

Granville is a wonderful to spend a weekend. Be sure to check out the market- it's a foodie's paradise. There's authentic Indian food, gelato, and just plain delicious pizza if you're ever feeling the need for comfort food. Along with great food, there are many great craft stores all around. Paper-Ya is an adorable stationary store that is not to be missed. Allow yourself a day to explore the whole island, because there's so much to do!
