The Granville Public Market is a massive place, and you can find everything from a bar to slip into to fresh seafood to a butcher shop to old albums to whatever artistic venture beckons you. It's a world within its walls.

Vancouver's most famous market is a great place to browse, shop, and get quality foods and gifts. It's the main attraction of the area, touristy but still local.

Fabulous produce market with lots of other foods available, like cheeses and sweets for the kids. I love to visit in winter. Even in rainy weather, in the covered market it still feels like a bustling and vibrant, sunny day. Although it's a fun spot for families, on crowded days, the market is not very conducive for strollers and wheelchairs, so you might pick a weekday to visit, if possible. Tip: Allow time to visit the artisanal and craft shops and boutiques surrounding the market, and enjoy the beautiful views, too!

There is something here for everyone with some fantastic food options and great gifts. Can spend a good couple of hours wandering the market but be prepared as it gets busy at the weekend.

Take the Aqua Bus from English Bay (stop located at the end of Howe Street, under the Burrard St Bridge) or Yaletown (stop located in David Lam Park) across False Creek to Granville Island. There's a great public market with lots of great local products: fresh daily seafood, specialty cheeses, veggies, sweets and artisan crafts. Peruse the market and put together a picnic to eat out on the docks -- Just beware of the seagulls! There are lots of studios and galleries in Granville Island, so don't stop at the Market. Don't miss the brewpub, where you can try local craft beer (try the Winter Ale if it's in season!). The restaurants in this area are all really great, but can get pricy: worth it for the fresh seafood and amazing views!

Whenever I go here, I go to this donut place that has the (I'm sorry Tim Hortons) best donuts ever. Sure there's not much variety but its really good. Prices are a bit high but worth it. This market also has fresh fruit and vegetables. To me, it's kind of like an indoor farmers market which I love.

Local from Greater Vancouver, Canada

Granville Island is a peninsula and shopping district in Vancouver. It is located in False Creek directly across from Downtown Vancouver's peninsula, under the south end of the Granville Street Bridge. The peninsula was once an industrial manufacturing area, but today it is now a major tourist destination and working neighbourhood. In 2004, Project for Public Spaces named Granville Island "One of the World's Great Places".

Before farmer’s markets became popular, there was Granville Island’s public market. Offering shoppers and visitors from across the globe fresh local produce, as well as expertly cut selections of meats from its delis and fish sold on ice; the public market has been doing it the longest and arguably, still does it the best.
