Price is good, not that expensive if you compare it with the Venezia standards where everything cost at least the double as the normal price. Not that easy to find, walking distance from the train station. Two minutes walk from the ferry boat stop that can get you to San Marco. Rooms are small, but I wasn't expecting much from it. The heating didn't work, crumbling blanket and horrible mattress. They really need to improve the customer care, too many thing lacking in the service. Breakfast was nice, nothing great, small choice and not that attractive. Warm welcoming at the entrance, at least, staff very kind and helpful. It's a shame the constant smell of the can nearby, it was intolerable. For a short stay (two days or one), for young couples and businessman.

Local from Venice

Walking distance from the train, this is a cute little bed and breakfast in Cannaregio, the old Jewish Ghetto of Venice. Rooms are very small and few, but well-maintained. Today, the main street, Strada Nuova, is a bustling shopping area. Calle della Masena is right off of this thoroughfare, so you will find great restaurants and shops close by. Try Gam Gam (see in Places), an amazing Kosher-style restaurant with Matzoh-ball soup and latkes.

If you like staying near lots of life, this is the hotel for you. Just half a block from the front door is a bustling shopping area with lots of street vendors, fruit and veggie stands, shoe shops, and even a small grocery store in the next plaza over. (If you have trouble finding it, it’s down the alley before Pizzeria Trattoria Le Campane and right after a plant shop, and there’s an old-fashioned lamp-style light that says “Hotel” right before the front door.) There’s something distinctly elegant and masculine about the lobby, with its handsome wood and handsomer desk clerk, but the covered breakfast garden and Venetian-style bedrooms are happily unisex. There’s no elevator, so beware if you’re injured or have lots of bags. But Facebook addicts will appreciate the wi-fi (for a fee).

If you can manage to find the alley that Hotel Ariel Silva is on amidst the bustle of a street teeming with tourists, produce vendors, shops, and haggling gondoliers, you will be a lucky one. I really liked this spot. It's tiny and sweet, and just nice enough, just Venice enough, without feeling remotely gaudy. The room even had one of those famous Murano glass chandeliers. It almost had the feel of a bed & breakfast, to me, with the friendly staff adorable breakfast patio, and the sky blue bathroom that reminded me of the one at my mum's house. This was the perfect spot to bring my lady for a quiet but exploratory romantic getaway. There is so much just outside your doorstep here. In addition to what I already mentioned, its only a few minutes walk from the train station, a few blocks from the Jewish ghetto, and there are countless restaurants and monuments everywhere around you. It's right in the thick of it.
