modern-looking, causing a bit of controversy as it clashes with the traditional feel of Venice. Still, it's difficult to argue with the bridge's beauty at night, when it seems to illuminate like nothing else around it.

Better known as Calatrava, after the name of the architect, this bridge creates a really interesting contrst with old elegant Venice buildings and connects the railway station to the west side of the city.

Each of the bridges over the Grande Canal has a unique design and structure this one is in a beautifully gently arch.

ponte della Constituzione is a pretty place but you need to walk a lot and you will find many branded shops and restaurants along the road.

You can tell that this is a much newer bridge, but the more modern appearance offers an understated juxtaposition to the historical architecture that surrounds it. Not one of the more classically romantic bridges in Venice but gorgeous nonetheless.

Venice's fourth and newest bridge, opened in 2008. It connects Stazione di Santa Lucia to Piazzale Roma, and is referred to locally as the Calatrava Bridge, but was given the grand title of Constitution Bridge, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Italian Constitution.

Ponte della Costituzione is the fourth bridge to be added over Venice's Grand Canal and its most recent. I first saw it once I disembarked the People Mover train coming from the Venice port, and crossed it to get to the train station. The bridge really caught my eye, with its unique design and completely different approach than any other bridge in Venice, but I can fully understand why this Calatrava structure is controversial. It was unbelievably annoying to drag a heavy luggage up some unecessary wide steps, steps that surely are slippery in the rain. Also, didn't see any surface for people with special needs. Looks very cool but it's far from practical!

The latest bridge by the acclaimed architect Santiago Calatrava made quiet a debate, since its glass steps are slippery in winter, and steel handrail becomes burningly hot in summer, but I can deny that its fishbone inspired architecture is interesting and stands out of the other traditional stone bridges. Worth the crossing and the photographs :P

It was my first introduction to the bridges of Venice as we arrived via bus. It's quite nice during the day, but the true beauty of the Ponte della Costituzione appears at night when all the lights are lit. It's a great place for watching the boats go floating by.
