Volos Vacations

Volos is located at the foot of the peninsula of Pelion at the centre of Greece. The city has an important waterfront which is lined with many pastry shops, cafes-bars, restaurants and mezedopolia. The waterfront is also the place where local people go for a stroll before or after dinner. The place gets really crowded during Friday and Saturday ... Read more
nights. The surrounding streets are also of interest as they are bustling with life. The municipality has made a lot of efforts to transform Volos into a pleasant city, with many paved streets that cross the city. The port of Volos is also very active with daily schedules to the islands of the Sporades: Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos. Volos is a necessary stop on your way to Pelion which is situated just next to it. From Volos you can sea the Pelion villages perched on the pine-covered mountains. It is an agreeable spectacle especially by night when only their lights can be seen.

Volos is a lovely city on the water, full of seaside shops, cafes and charm. Although there isn't too much in the immediate area, this is a quaint, quiet place to relax by the water.

Although Volos is a fairly large city, it retains its quaint charm if you know where to look. The sea is beautiful, with cute cafes and restaurants overlooking the water.

The perfect destination for summer and winter! Maybe some of the best beaches in Greece are: Ai Giannis (nice destination, search for the small -more private- beach next to the village), Agioi Saranta (Mamba beach bar: cool cocktails right next to the sea), Melani (nudist beach), Ksinovrisi (huge rock separates the beach into two parts) and the list continuous!
In the winter, maybe it is not THE best ski centre but it takes only 1/2 hour to be skiing!! And the traditional villages on the go (Portaria, Makrunitsa) are worth-visiting as well as Milies and Tsagkarada.
Although the beauty of Pelion, Volos still is the place to taste tsipouro! Carefull! Avoid the dig restaurants next to the sea. The rule is: the smaller the "tsipouradiko" the better the tsipouro!

Voloooos...I think it is one of the most beatiful cities in Greece. It is kind of big city for Greece, you can visit it all year round. Near Volos, there is a high mountain called Pelion (there are lots of myths about it) to try skiing. There are also wonderful beaches both in the mainland (near Volos) and on the islands (e.g. Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonisos).
