today's meticulous restoration of the Old Town, with its churches, palaces and market-place. It is an outstanding example of a near-total reconstruction of a span of history covering the 13th to the 20th century. In 1980, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The old historic center of Warsaw used to be the thriving center of Poland until WWII when it was virtually all destroyed with heavy bombing and fighting. It was rebuilt after WWII but still shows some of the signs of war. It is on it's way back though and is growing. There is so much to do in Warsaw and a lot of historical and cultural things to do and see.

Elegant, stylish and historical - and, in it's rebuilt-after-the-war-in-a-heroic-effort, typically Polish - The Old Town!

Visit it during December, right after Christmas, and was mesmerized with the decorations, specially at night

Such a nice square. It wasn't very busy at all, so we got awesome photos of the place without tourists in the background. It's also really close to everywhere else.

85% of the historic center of Warsaw was destroyed by the Nazi in 1944. The Old Town was reconstructed after the war, based on the original old town. It is an outstanding example of a near-total reconstruction of a span of history covering the 13th to the 20th century. This is also where you can see The Mermaid of Warsaw (Syrenka Warszawska), the symbol of the city. It's represented on the city's coat of arms and well as in a number of statues and art works.

Can't believe it's not really from the time it was built. Warsaw was flattened during the war and they rebuilt it very authentically!

The old centre of the city was destroyed by retreating Nazis at the end of World War II and painstakingly rebuilt. The colourful buildings reflect their purpose.

Nearly the entire Historic Centre of Warsaw was painstakingly rebuilt after World War II—exactly the way it looked in late 18th century. Why the late 18th century? The Venetian painter Bernardo Bellotto came to Poland and produced some very detailed paintings of Warsaw in 1764. Those were the model for the recreated city.

The Historic Center is mostly rebuilt since it was destroyed in World War II. It's a bit touristy, but okay. It's certainly lively.

the Historic Center of Warsaw has seen much glory in its heydays before the German invasion, much horror and destruction during the German invasion, and much revival after the Germans left. Even though much of the original old town was destroyed and since been rebuilt, this historical center of the city still offers a lot for today's visitors and locals alike. Restaurants, cafes, shops, and history get along very well here!

Super-cute area of Warsaw, definitely worth a walk-through. If you don't think about the cynical Disney-esque aspect of being rebuilt in teh 1970s, you could imagine that these streets were here 100 years ago.

Old Town Market Square. This is the most touristy spot in all of Warsaw. The buildings surrounding the square were entirely rebuilt after World War II. I wouldn't recommend having a meal here but it's not a bad place to grab a snack and a drink in the late afternoon, before the dinner crowd flocks in.
