19-foot (5.7-meter) statue of Lincoln seated and deep in thought, along with the carved text of the Gettysburg Address, provides a glimpse into a weighty period of American history. The 36 Doric columns represent the number of states in the union at the time of Lincoln's death. Go at night for much lighter crowds.

The best time to visit is at dawn and at night where the crowd dies down. But even with throngs of tourists, you can help but feel the reverence as you read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address that’s carved on the southern wall. The view of the Washington Monument is spectacular and there is a special marker carved in the steps where Martin Luther King Attis to deliver his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

A very beautiful monument that is sadly often very crowded. However a must-see if you visit DC!

Very nice iconic American memorial... During the walk up the steps to the monument, I started to imagine all of the historical people that had trekked up the same steps. Nice history...

Absolutely amazing view at the top. There is a lot of stairs, but worth it. Top: the gift shop is at the top and tiny tiny. Also, hold railing on the way down the steps!

Definitely visit this memorial at night. During the day it's so crowded and you can't really appreciate the statue. At night, there's not a ton of people and the way the lights hit the statue at night paint a beautiful picture

Like many things in DC, it is free to visit! Very crowded though, don’t expect to get a picture without people walking through it.

I enjoyed my time spent here. There were a lot of people so it was very difficult to get a good picture and it was difficult to move around. For families with kids in strollers and/or wheelchairs, GOOD news there is an elevator at the side of the facility. This prevents you having to worry about getting up the steps.

A must see. Both during the day and at night. Gets pretty crowded during tourist season but worth the trip.

The Lincoln Memorial is absolutely beautiful, especially at night. I would highly recommend a walk along the National Mall during the day, stopping into different ~free~ museums, and ending up at the Lincoln Memorial at night.

Besides seeing Abe Lincoln the walls are mounted with quotes from his speeches. We found it to be a very moving experience.

Very historic piece of America's history located in Washington DC - "Honest Abe". Get some exercise by climbing the steps to take a pic with Abe while overlooking the Reflecting pool.
