Description
The site of protests, rallies, picnics and presidential inaugurations, this is where history is made fresh every year and where Americans remember the struggles, and victories, of their country. ... Read more
Chock-a-block with museums and memorials in the space of 1.9 miles, the top attractions include a number of Smithsonian Institutions like the National Air and Space Museum (full of historic aircraft and spacecraft), the National Museum of American History (from Lewis and Clark's compass to Kermit the Frog) and the National Museum of Natural History (in case you needed a reminder of how big a woolly mammoth is).

Lots of things to do and see at the National mall... You could spend days here seeing the museum and all the historical sights.

Love this openness and beauty of all the monuments and Smithsonian in a common area.

I was not overly impressed with the National Mall. I heard it compared to other places like Central Park but it did not seem nearly as interesting, maybe that was because I was there going into spring and not all the trees were completely green yet.

Walking up and down the National Mall is absolutely fabulous - make sure you are wearing comfy shoes because you will be exhausted by the end of the day!

What's great about the NM, is that there are so many monuments to see all in walking distance of each other... But do map out your route to save time.

Never a shortage of people watching and things to do along the Mall. From the Capitol to the Washington Monument and all the museums in between.

This is a super special spot in the United States. Some very special memorials, buildings, and celebrations can be found here on a regular basis. It is also beautiful here, day or night.

Definitely a must see spot if you are driving through or going to Washington DC. I have always had a huge smile on my face everytime I have been here. Be it as a 43 year old man or a 13 yr old 8th grader. It is unique special and unforgettable.

It is so special due to its location and surroundings. One end has the Lincoln Memorial opposite the Capital Building (where both houses of Congress work), the Washington Monument is in the western half of the Mall but has a direct line of site and additional parks all the way down to the White House. It has some of the world famous Smithsonian Museums around its edges.

Additionally there are some other super iconic places here. For example; The Vietnam Memorial better known as “The Wall”, the reflecting pools that have been in more movies than I can count, and the World War I and II Memorials, etc etc etc. Needless to say, this is a place of huge impact for the United States of America.

If you have never been, I suggest that you go and visit this place. It seriously is well worth it and will make you smile, feel ridiculously patriotic, and happy to be an American. I love this place.

If you are visiting D.C take part of the day to walk the national mall. We went for the afternoon and saw all of the memorials. Hint though bring water, sunscreen, and good walking shoes.

On any given day, there is hundreds of things to do in or around the Mall. Lined with heavy-duty monuments and memorials, it is a great place for all ages and all kinds of people. Photos can be taken of famous sites from nearly every corner.

This place is just so grand and full of amazing history. You can take a walk over to the Martin Luther King or Lincoln Memorial and experience the greatness of the structures built for these to historical men. You can also go over to the national monument which very much a D.C. landmark. Unfortunately at this time you can't go in to the monument but it's still worth seeing!!

A beautiful location to enjoy the history of the nation. I happened across a man happy to be feeding the birds and just enjoyed a moment watching him.

The National Mall is extremely accessible from our location. On nice days, just walk up Pennsylvania Ave. towards the Capitol Building (can't miss it). You can also take a short metro ride from the Potomac Ave. stop.

This is not Downtown Washington DC but the heart of the capital for tourists.

Basically if you visit DC the National Mall is the place you wanna go for the Washington Monument (the obelisk), the Lincoln Memorial, the White house, Library of Congress, and all the museums. Besides it's very green. If it's not too hot this place is perfect to hang out.
