By museum standards, especially in New Zealand, Te Papa has to be pretty high up there! The huge museum spans six floors with a wealth of interactive exhibits to keep all the family entertained. The museum delves into New Zealand’s eclectic history and culture using a great range of mediums. Entry is free but there are some paid tours that run daily – I'd recommend the Maori Highlights Tour.

This National Museum and Art Gallery of New Zealand offers free admission (although there can be a charge for some special exhibits). The museum features treasures, art and historical exhibits representing Maori and Pacific cultures, as well as several modern and interactive exhibits. It is definitely worth a quick visit (or much longer if you have the time to spend, here).

A national museum and one of the best in New Zealand, visitors can learn about Maori culture, the country's history, and more. It's free admission for everyone and there's often a special exhibition or two to check out along with the permanent collection. Currently, the Gallipoli exhibition is on until April 2018 where the museum joined forces with Weta Workshop to create some stunning and realistic moments in time, 2.4 times the human size.

Te Papa (Wellington Museum) is one cool museum. Filled with marine and biology exhibits, interactive rooms like a live movable map, and an earthquake simulator, it's the perfect place for an afternoon indoors. Add the Middle Earth vibe and Lord of the Rings/Hobbit memorabilia, and how can you get any cooler? Oh yeah, it's free.

Witness the long history of New Zealand at this national museum, free to visit for all. This is a great way to take a break from summer outdoors activities.

Not just any museum, great for kids and a lot more fun then most museums. Have been here many times and my all time favourite has always been the 'Golden Days' film and I always take a trip to the Earthquake house.

I'm not usually a museum fan but this place is great. It's really interactive and is absolutely massive. There is 6 floors and so far we've only covered 2 in 2 days. Plenty of info on NZ and its history and plants and animals

If you love Museum like I do...I wouldn't never give Te Papa a miss. It's the best museum in the North Island of New Zealand.

Beware that you probably would spend the whole day there...
