The word is, as long as there's been a rock scene, there has been the Whiskey a Go Go. It's been around 1964, and even today, it still has a traditional grunge feel that most clubs wouldn't take note ... Read more
of for two more decades. Even with all the modern technology needed to carry today's most cutting edge band, that stage looks like it could still bring out classic artists like the Doors to Jimi Hendrix. Today, Whiskey a Go Go promises to host the cream of rock'n'roll's crop, from Crowbar and Crooked Saint to Smile Empty Soul.

This is a small venue but well known in the music world. This is where AXS TV films their "World's Greatest Tribute Bands" TV concert series from. Tickets are free, but you need to get them online in advance of the show.

This place reeks of rock n roll history, of the greatest bands too numerous to mention, and of the rock gods themselves. It's not huge, it can get super crowded , but the service is great, the music's loud, and it's a great place to meet n hang with your friends while meeting potentially new ones. That's if you can hear one another....lol

The Whisky a Go Go is a must-visit for any music fan in your life. The home of bands like Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, the list goes on and on. The actual venue is quite small and dingy, and you can almost smell the history emanating from the walls. At least I hope it's history.

Arguably, the rock and roll scene in Los Angeles was born when the Whisky started operation in 1964. Though the club was billed as a discothèque, suggesting that it offered only recorded music, the Whisky a Go Go opened with a live band led by Johnny Rivers and a short-skirted female DJ Rhonda Lane, spinning records between sets from a suspended cage at the right of the stage. When, in July 1965, the DJ danced during Rivers’ set, the audience thought it was part of the act and the concept of go-go dancers dancing in cages was born. The Whisky played an important role in many musical careers, especially for bands based in Southern California. The Byrds, Alice Cooper, Buffalo Springfield and Love were regulars, and The Doors were the house band for a while—until the debut of the “Oedipal section” of “The End” got them fired. Many British performers made their first headlining performances in the area at the Whisky, including The Kinks, The Who, Cream, Slade, Led Zeppelin, Roxy Music and Oasis.

Went to a concert for a Japanese rock band a little while ago with my friend Kristina. It was a high energy concert, and the venue was definitely one of your classic rock and roll joints. Service at the bar was friendly.
