Check out Congress' formerly secret underground bunker! This is where they were going to hide if WWIII ever occurred.

Chandeliers and intricate floral wallpaper—courtesy of designer Dorothy Draper—adorn this legendary hotel, dating back to 1778. Brush up on croquet on the manicured lawn (kids under 13 play free), or explore the Allegheny Mountains with a guided hike. For a crash course on Cold War history, take a tour of the on-site bunker, which once served as a top-secret U.S. government relocation facility.

Historic, sprawling and Southern comfort. Enjoyed our stay at this federal styled architecture; with art-deco, neoclassical meets southern plantation resort interior. If you are into interior decorating this hotels interior was designed by the famous interior decorator, Dorothy Draper of the 1920's-1960's and Carleton Varney, now - bold colors and over-sized floral patterns abound. The rooms are spacious with huge closets. Nice touches in the rooms include spa-like bathrobes, slippers and spa toiletries. There are a lot of free things to do including an 'afternoon tea' that only includes tea, iced and hot, and cookies, spacious grounds including a walking trail, artisan shops with a few historic buildings/museums, nice indoor pool and many areas for lounging. The paid activities include falconry, a state-of -the-art Tennis Center, golf, a casino - yes a real money taking casino, a great historical tour of The Bunker that you must do to appreciate the significance of the Cold War, white water rafting, carriage rides and so much more. There is a five-star rated spa which is nice but not what a five-star spa should be, there's very little relaxing areas and most of the time all the seating is already taken, the 'extra's' like tea and snacks are OK but not on the high end scale one would expect, the treatments are basic and seem to be done one way and not customized to the client, it's noisy and the dressing areas are crowded - you feel like part of a spa factory. There is a medical clinic on the premises that many people go to for complete medical work-ups, this is intriguing but you would have to allow time for it and book well in advance. There are many restaurants to choose from though when they are busy, summer and weekends, its very hard to get a table. You should make restaurant seating reservation way in advance especially at the nicer restaurants: Main Dining Room and Prime 44 West. The Executive Chef does a wonderful job with farm-to-table ingredients from The Greenbrier Farm. There are many shops within the main hotel and a huge ballroom where many activities and events take place. If you want relaxation go during the week as the weekends are full of families with a lot of kids and this causes waiting at most restaurants and kid friendly activities.

Definately want to return to this resort and be pampered some more. The spa was first class, and the sulpher soak heavenly. The hotel is gorgeous and decorated in true Dorothy Draper fashion. The pool and grounds were beautiful. The service outstanding. Could be better handicapped accessible.
