Canakkale Vacations

Turkey
Canakkale is a great base for exploring Gallipoli and Troy and sits on the Dardenelles, which join the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean Sea. The pretty seafront of this modern town is well worth a visit, as is the Archaeological Museum and the Military and Naval Museum. Canakkale is …

It's a nice town with really nice people, the Trojan horse by the seaside promenade is a must see, for it's the actual prop used in the movie Troy. The world heritage site of Truva (Troy), is just 30mins away.

The ferry ride from Gelibolu to Cannakale showcase the wide beautiful blue sea. The wooden horse here was used in the movie Troy and was given to honour the original site of the ancient city of Troy situated in Cannakale.

Very calm and cute city on the water. It's certainly odd that one of the most seemingly peaceful and beautiful cities was so close to one of the greatest tragedies of WW1. Very close to a lot of important historical sites such as Gallipoli and Troy. The city itself is also vibrant with a distinct Mediterranean feel. Best fish I have ever eaten in Turkey can be found in Canakkale.

I totally recommend Canakkale, because that's where you will be able to check out the famous Trojan Horse. I think everyone in High School had to read Homers Iliad, and I had to check it out when I was studying abroad in Turkey. I totally enjoyed climbing up into the huge horse and getting my picture taken! There are buses that leave frequently from Istanbul to Canakkale almost every hour in the day time. It takes around 6 hours by bus from Istanbul, and the price for a bus ticket round trip is not that expensive at all. (Around 40 Euro)
