Jinja is a nice town on the banks of Lake Victoria, with beautiful views over the lake. I stayed in a cheap but really nice hotel with a balcony overlooking Lake Victoria. Lots of palm trees fringe the lake and have large, day-flying fruit bats living in them. You can visit Speke's source of the Nile here, where the White Nile river joins the lake. You can do white water rafting in Jinja.

This gritty town used to be an industrial center before everything moved to Kampala. Now it is the gateway to activities on Lake Victoria and the nearby sugar cane fields. The small nearby villages are a great way to get a glimpse of rural life.

Jinja hosts the source of the Nile... yes it actually starts in Uganda. very understated so not very touristy making it a lovely view point. highly recomend dipping a toe or two at the spot where the nile begins.
