Great little town in the Rockies with historic railway and museum, rafting, great shops and restaurants, distillery and craft beer, arts center and more.

Durango is a town that has something for everyone. With more restaurants per capita than San Francisco, it offers varied and exciting cuisine. Fort Lewis College sponsors the Music in the Mountains Festival in the Summer where music can be enjoyed in the luscious surroundings of the San Juan Mountains. A walk along the Animus River trail system is refreshing and restorative. Art galleries display works ranging from jewelry to Native American works, quilts, and fine arts. There are monthly gallery walks. Some of the museums include the Durango Railroad Historical Society, the Anasazi Heritage Center, and the Animus Museum of local history. Mesa Verde National Park is less than an hours drive away and Purgatory Ski resort is approximately one half hour to the North. Not to mention the endless outdoor opportunities for hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, and enjoying the clean air. I fell in love with this town on my honeymoon in 1990 and have been back many times. It doesn't take long to discern that the locals are welcoming and open, yet discerning and intellectually inclined.

Oh Durango, you are so wonderful. Hubbing out of Durango will set you up for exploring one of the most charming regions of Colorado - the southwest corner. Vast open spaces, wild land, canyons and captivating rock formations can all be found close to this laid-back city. And so can opportunities for hiking, biking, rafting, horseback riding, zip-lining, and four wheeling.
