Haines was a day stop of my cruise of Alaska's Inside Passage. As a mini-town, there's not much to do there. I took a hike, and then a medium length run out to the ferry.
Our only reason for being here was because it was a short stop on our Alaska cruise. Do you remember the television show "Northern Exposure"? Well, Haines could have provided the setting for that show. They say one can sometimes see moose walking across the street of this tiny town. We liked it merely for the experience of being in a place very different from anything we had ever seen. However, there is no real reason to make a special trip here.
I fell in love with the tiny town of Haines, Alaska as soon as I stepped off the ferry. Haines is where I imagine the show Northern Exposure took place with its few residents, small pubs and cafes, and abundance of nature. Stay here for a few days to see what it's really like living in Alaska.
