Rent a car and drive around the island and pick up some Cheap eats. Foodland Ala Moana, Dukes in Waikiki , Giovanni’s shrimp truck, shave ice at Local, Maguro Brothers in Chinatown. Places I’ve hiked that you should check out are Three peaks (Olomana trail), Pillbox, and 7 falls.

More the air company than the airport but there is nothing to do before security, no food or entertainment

I had been led to believe that I would not like Honolulu. It was described as busy, crowded, urban...so much so that my intention had been not to stop here at all. When we got stranded here for a couple days (a long story involving crooked craigslist fraudsters) we were a little bummed - only to discover that Honolulu is actually amazing. The beaches at Waikiki, while not secluded, are gorgeous. The restaurants are great. While we did get stuck in traffic on Friday night, otherwise we found parking reasonably easy. By the time we could go we were not sure we were quite ready. That was a great surprise.
